to cheer a seemingly hopeless cases , let us take a such a case and see what maximum score out of 105 is possible

profile:
fresher
xth 70
xiith 65
graduation 70
CAT : 100 ( well when you have enjoyed in past, atleast sweat it out now)

initial call is guranteed (CAT 100)

score in stage I out of 70 will be
work ex: 0 (out of 10)
xth : 10.5 ( assuming linear scoring, out of 15)
xii : 6.5 ( out of 10)
graduation : ( 10.5)
CAT : 20 (20)
total : 47.5

stage II

here ypu have to perform exceptionally well in GD and PI as well as write an AAA+++ summary of GD.

suppose you pull it off, then your score may be in 28-32 range

so total then would be somewhere in 79.5 - 75.5 ( out of 1o5)

well so if last year score for the last candidate offered admission is say 75 then one need not lose all hopes. otherwise, well forget about B. you still have 5 other iims where weightage for past academic record may not be of the order of 42.8%

so cheer up guys and concentrate on CAT. meanwhile IIMB may reveal the scores on 105 scale also for one more round of.......

sree
What did you use to arrive at 10.5 as the score for tenth and bachelors?Forget it! Realised

Re: IIMB Admission Process Details - 03-08-2007, 03:52 PM

Just did some DI on the recent doc from IIMB..

The values taken are average given for the general category for the candidates shortlisted for GDPI.

10th =88.74 * 0.15 = 13.311 (out of 15)
12th =88.94 * 0.10 = 8.894 (out of 10)
UG =82.84 * 0.15 = 12.426 (out of 15)

Work Exp = 17 months (Mean taken from the given data)
(This can be debated.. Actually depends on how u calculate the mean)
Value for work ex = 5* 17/36 = 2.36 *1 (Multiplied by 1, assuming work ex quality to be average)

CAT = 99.14 - 90 (Since 90 is the minimum percentile required. I assume it wont be absolute percentile otherwise everybody's score will be more than 19.8 for 20)
= 9.14*2 = 18.28 (out of 20)

So, total comes to 55.271 for 70...

This is the average of the students when they went for GDPI last year..
Lets see this year

Cheers,
Mac

Re: IIMB Admission Process Details - 04-08-2007, 11:40 AM

On first look, the selction process has these flaws.

1) Giving only 20% weightage to CAT and SHORTLISTING ONLY BY CAT score will mean negeclting students who have great academics but who might have slipped marginally in CAT and IIMs missing talented/studious guys.

2) Similarly, a guy with mediocre acads (40% weightage) who is shortlised (called for gd/pi) will not stand a realistic chance of converting it, despite his best efforts in gd/pi.. It means raising false hopes for students.

My point is the basis of shortlisting should be made taking in view the overall profile. Just like what scmhrd,sp jain does. If a guy scores less on one factor, he can make it up on another.

But, the IIM profs who have devised the selection criteria must have gone through a rigorous methodology/process. So they must be right in their own way. The placements prove a point or more.

The basic and most important thing is "We cant change the selection procedure to suit our tastes, unless of course, Arjun Singh happens to be our uncle.". So better focus on whats in our hands i.e CAT.

All the best.

I personally feel that there has been too much of a discussion on this topic....

It was great reading the posts. The admission process that appeared in Newspapers n all was so damn confusing. I thought they should've never come up with the revelations!

Anyways, Puys, tell me how much setback is a gap in work ex?
Like I've got 9 months work ex. But I gave it up. Its not that I have been doing nothing. I am gonna pass CPT Test for CAs. (I might get negative for that too.. I am a BE. I messed my profile a lot in the last one year! :( Any suggestions to improve the same are welcome. In fact I am begging for ur suggestions!)

Whats done is past now...why worry about that and spoil your future with that thought. Let me tell you with my experience that the truth is always stranger than than what we have in our minds.
So let all those fears sit here at this point of time and dont carry them any forward. They are of no use.

Study and give in everything you can. Thats the best way to finght for a cause.

All the best.

Re: IIMB Admission Process Details - 16-08-2007, 02:39 PM

Hi puys,

I have a doubt here..

Suppose these are the scores of two persons,

A: 99.3 ( 98,98,85)
B: 99.2 ( 98,95,95)

While calculating the final score, will A lose out to B because her score is not balanced? Or the overall percentile is the only concern!

Thanks..
Cheers!

well,

your guess would be as good as anybody's.

while B has got an over all balanced score, A cleared the cutoffs in all three and a better score than A. Probably A would be given preference by IIMs, and is the better option, in my opinion.

Re: IIMB Admission Process Details - 06-10-2007, 05:49 PM

well friends,

i am in a state of great panic

and i need help from you all

recently i came to know abt IIM-B admission criteria giving weightages to X and XII as 25% and B.Degree as 15%

My Result are as follows:

X: 75.6%
XII: 63.2

i am a cat 2008 aspirant and currently in IIIrd yr B.E

right now my B.E aggregate is 65% and recently entered into V sem.

i think these %ages are going to effect selection drastically....?????

moreover i also read that other IIM's will also follow a similar pattern....

well recently i appeared in TIME test series and got around 93%ile:grab:
