hey navitesh
i hv seen ur mock scores... n I feel when u r consistently getting such high scores. n if u can touch 100%tile in one of the section...you can be assured of ur B call....(it is mentioned in their selection procedure).... n i know u hv potential to touch even 100%tile overall too.... We cant do much about our PAST.... what we can do is to analyse the present situation carefully... n take decision accordingly....
Like after seeing the B criteria(which should nt be very different from other IIMS)
i have decided to take GMAT(after CAT) in mid DEC..... n apply to US colleges in their second rounds..... I am thanking god that atleast now we know our situation.... n can prepare ourselves for the worst.....

a new document @IIMB
The document summarizes the profile of all the applicants to the program in comparison to
the profile of those who have been short-listed for the group discussion and interview on
certain dimensions that are used in the selection process. It also provides the profile of the
candidates who were made offers and the profile of the candidates who have accepted the
offer at IIMB. This document reports comparative information on performance in the
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2006, past scholastic performance and relevant work
experience. In addition, it also summarizes some demographic dimensions of the applicants
and those short-listed that are of general interest to applicants.

Somehow i was always under the impression that IIMB looked at work ex more than any thing else. Good, they have cleared the misconception

That makes me wonder what criteria IIMA and C employ, being equally tough to crack!

What kind of distribution would be the bachelors degree marks distribution around the mean value of 83.91?
Any idea guys?
I have around 78.75 and i may find it extremely difficult to get through on this parameter.
Any statisticians out here?

Back we are again

Tell me ... if u standardize the 10th, 12th and UG marks based on the 90th %ile of the students in total who applied for CAT for the past 2 yrs from the same univeristy, how can you get an average :eh: .
Do you mean to say the average after standardization is 80+ in Engineering / UG ???
Mumbai Univerity Toppers ( Yes University Topper is around 80 81 every year ) So Much for the 50th Rank in the University.

Consider acads, even take someone's 5th Standard marks. Doesnt matter. Ensure that the school is not known for dishing out marks (say topper in 5th is 100 % ), and some school where the topper is only 78%.

The technique stated for standardization is flawed ( plz refer earlier posts) , and even Bond will agree to that. But then you cant go to every tom **** and harry institute and get the scores of the 90th %ile of that year, can you? Or can you .

Whether the weightage given to past acads is good is totally a different argument. I can even buy the part, where consistent achievers ---> sincere ppl, hard workers --> cos. love them --> IIM B supplies them.
But in truth, are the right ones being supplied? Partly yes, coz this goddamn coutry has 1000's of brilliant ppl . Some miss out, too bad . What can IIM B do . Or can they .

Re: IIMB Admission Process Details - 03-08-2007, 02:56 PM

hi friends to change the direction slightly,

what is the final minimum score ( out of 105) that a general cadidate offered admission in IIMB? any guesses or IIMB will release another pdf?

to cheer a seemingly hopeless cases , let us take a such a case and see what maximum score out of 105 is possible

profile:
fresher
xth 70
xiith 65
graduation 70
CAT : 100 ( well when you have enjoyed in past, atleast sweat it out now)

initial call is guranteed (CAT 100)

score in stage I out of 70 will be
work ex: 0 (out of 10)
xth : 10.5 ( assuming linear scoring, out of 15)
xii : 6.5 ( out of 10)
graduation : ( 10.5)
CAT : 20 (20)
total : 47.5

stage II

here ypu have to perform exceptionally well in GD and PI as well as write an AAA+++ summary of GD.

suppose you pull it off, then your score may be in 28-32 range

so total then would be somewhere in 79.5 - 75.5 ( out of 1o5)

well so if last year score for the last candidate offered admission is say 75 then one need not lose all hopes. otherwise, well forget about B. you still have 5 other iims where weightage for past academic record may not be of the order of 42.8%

so cheer up guys and concentrate on CAT. meanwhile IIMB may reveal the scores on 105 scale also for one more round of.......

sree
