Mr Insider,
If you r really wanting to "save us " and r our well wisher, please come in the open and clear the air. That will make u authentic. Speculating like this is in no way going to help the cause.

Or else what we wud like to see it as :
U r a complete fake who has been screwed big time in interview and could not make it to GLakes and is venting on them or if actually an insider then probably the most pathetic one (I am assured u r not an insider. No insider wud do that. coz if it hurts teh schools image, it hurts him personally too.. rather professionally too..)

If u have the guts, com eout in open. Period. I am not defending GLakes or something. But offending u for sure.
I have been selected for the PGPM 2008 at GLIM.... I just want to testify the veracity of these statements... and I can only achieve that by posting it in public... After all I am supposed to pay 50000 before the 15th to secure a seat... better to be discrete and well-informed before taking such a vital step... Fellow puys and seniors please comment...

I myself have been shortlisted for the program... I just read it on one of the blogs... I just want to test the veracity of these statements... and that I can do only by posting it in public... FEW REALITIES...AGAIN

now on blogspot...as scary as before
I would like to post my take on the above BLOG below..!!

1. GREAT LAKES IS NOT OFFERING AN AICTE APPROVED COURSE.

Great Lakes is not hiding this fact. They clearly mention the same in their website and also is open to all the query related to this. I personally had mailed them before applying asking about this. And i got a satisfactory reply.:-)

They are not getting approval from AICTE because GLAKES MBA is a one year program and AICTE is not having rules in place as on today to recognize a one year MBA program. Even ISB is not having AICTE approval for that matter.

Yes.. the colleges INSIDER mentions in his post failed to get an approval... But I really don’t think GLAKES will have to follow the same path.. And GLAKES is a risk worth taking..

2. GREAT LAKES HAS A VERY POOR B-SCHOOL RANKING.

The PaGaLGuY ranking which INSIDER is referring to is based on the responses of around 5000 (only!) students. I being from north India, know how many students are aware of the institute. Only a handful.. When i told my friends that i am applying to GLAKES, thy asked me 'What is that':whatthat:!!

So my point is, how many people will rank a college when they have not heard about it? A small publicity event by GLAKES in north India will do the trick next time around.

Another reason which i feel why GLAKES lost in the ranking (35th in PUY Ranking!) is may be because GLAKES is yet to have its own campus. This issue will also be addressed (hopefully!) by next year!!

3. DON’T GO ON FIGURES…THE PLACEMENTS AIN’T SO GREAT

Yes! Even i feel GLAKES have to come up with separate stats for both DOMESTIC as well as FOREIGN placements. But then 9.3LPA (2007 figures!) is not at all bad for a newbie college like GLAKES. :-)Which other college in India can boast of such stats just after couple of years of inception??

4. GREAT LAKES DOES NOT HAS ITS OWN CAMPUS.

GLAKES never hid this fact. They clearly says they are yet to have a campus of its own. Since INSIDER mentioned about the 5 colleges, i would like to say something about that too. If you see the brochure of these 5 (or is it 3?) colleges, they no where mention that the building is shared by 5 colleges. It is a shock waiting for the aspirants on their first day to those colleges!!

Now regarding the timeline and the delay… We all with WorkEx should quite easily understand that almost all the projects (atleast in INDIA.. donno if it has something to do with Indian Stretchable Time!) get delayed.. how many of us can boast of saying they never overshot their deadlines…? :sleepy:

I sincerely hope the campus is up by next year!!

5. GREAT LAKES HAVE ONLY 6-7 PEOPLE AS PERMANENT FACULTY

Yes! The number of permanent faculty in GLAKES is quite low to the standards. But then the list is growing quite rapidly. Very recently, two of the famous figures in India (As well as management), Prof. T. N. Sheshan and Prof Nirmal Gupta.:-)

I would like to end this discussion with another BLOG link. As all these started with a BLOG, this might as well put an end to it.

NB: I am neither an INSIDER nor do i know anyone personally in GLAKES. I am just another one like who is hoping to get into GLAKES...! :-)

Re: Great Lakes Admissions 2008 - 10-03-2008, 12:07 PM

Congratulations for all selected GLIM 2009 students...
U deserve it guys...

I haven't made it... it was so bad... virtually gone thru the whole process almost 4-5 times to find out what/where it may have gone wrong still didn't found a single wrong turn or someone barbing a horn !!! I know its the process and 5 out of 6 will not get the call... still its very hard and painful to convince oneself that I am in that '5 out of 6'. 'Half broken' after looking the list on Friday night and it took me the whole 2 day weekend to boost myself.

So now back to business and desperately waiting for the 'Wait List'. Lets see whats in the store for us... It will be soothing if someone can put some details of the wait list like at what time it will come, how many names we can expect and what was the last year story of 'wait list' i mean how many of them got the final calls. Hope fully it will be in the order of rank.

"
Have been a silent reader on this thread a long time and have been following the posts on Placements and stuff @ Glakes for quiet some time...

For all those staring at the Question "Shud i choose Glakes?"...here are my 2 cents worth...
  1. Glakes is a 1 yr Post grad Diploma in Management...it does not have AICTE approval..so what?..a lot of courses dont have it..as pointed out by Noel...
  2. Look at value for money and ROI...spoke to a few friends of mine at Glakes current batch....the input i received was that a lot of profs are real gud and quiet a few are from international univs...they come down for a few weeks and take classes and leave...what i want to know is how is this different from an ISB?...how many B schools in India have every prof as a permanent faculty and available 24x7 for interaction with students???
  3. What you learn and take away from an MBA depends on 2 things..(my view completly..:-))...your ability to grasp and understand concepts and the kind of ideas that your peers share...given that a major chunk of students in Glakes will we professionals wit 2+ yrs of Exp I am sure that what I can take away from a Glakes will be a lot more than what i might have got from a Bschool which has 50% of its batch as freshers...(Freshers and people with less than 2 yrs of Exp..pls dont kill me for this...)
  4. Coming to the the bottom line of the MBA Bschool business...Placements...for all those who are crying out loud regarding double digit CTC placements of various other B schools, I request you you to kindly talk to students and check on the actual packages that are offered...in fact would recommend the PG article on demystifying Bschool placement stats...Hell i know of guys from IIM's who are placed in MNC's with packages of 7 LPA...I dont hear any1 talking about that?Guys and gals take a reality check and you will realize that CTC is not everything.
  5. WRT to comments posted by Insider on various blogs...there are bound to be people in every Bschool who are disgruntled with the system and the process and feel that they have been let down because they did not get the profile/package that they wanted or because the Bschool was not up to their expectation...End of the day its a compromise....thats the fact...all that matters is how much are you willing to compromise
I have got through Glakes and am planing to take it up...all i have said above are my views...i am sure most of you here are capable of using your discretion in considering what i have written above ....

Cheers
Rj

Wanna knows whats going on?...
