Junta was to less.....more counsellors than aspirants.
Maybe this can be advertised on the forum page with a single banner or something like that so that ppl are aware of this....

Another runaway hit idea from Mahip!!!
Well I would love to volunteer!!!
And
I think we need to advertise this on the front page of PG and in our signatures as well.
There is simply lots and lots of Junta out there hunting for the answers!!!
And very few people with the time to answer those questions...
As for my credentials...
Hmmm...
ICSE (92%)
ISC (96%)
Of course, later I got stuck with my CA Finals and the story changed ..
I gave CAT 2002 without touching my books..or seeing CAT paper (they did not give those away then!! ) and hit 94.65 percentile....
So in 2006 I studied hard and gave CAT ..only to hit a percentile in 70's..
The only saving grace was VA of 98+ both times...
I got calls from IIFT, SCMHRD and NMIMS..
Converted only NMIMS but did not take it up..
...as IIMS have been the goals always....
Why should I be allowed to act as a counselor???
Well I am good in VA...
my senior from school(Alfred Kallingal) is an IIM A guy
plus my best friend (Nikhil Mohta) is an IIMA passout...
and finally a junior (Vishal Gandhi ) is another one from IIM A..
have interacted with with all three closely so I definitely have an idea of the DNA behind an IIM A admit...
As a teacher... 2 of my students are IIM L passouts....
and my current boss is an IIM C grad of 2000....
Pata nahin apna number kab aayega...Aayega bhi ki nahin!!!!
Regards
Tanveer

First of all My hugs to all the counsellors for their wonderful performance
Now the suggestions part:
I felt there were too many counsellors for little junta. The junta will surely increase...But the issue is on the same topic there were varied views. Like someone suggested to mug up word list, next said go by reading way to increase word power and some believed that in changing CAT words has less or no role to play. It is just one of the incidents. Then there may be different views on speed v/s accuracy and so on and so forth. To the counsellor its easy as one puts his/her view forward but to the aspirant this is very confusing and depressing. He/She starts from one point completes a circle and by the end of it find himself again at the same point. I personally have been through such time last year when I contacted different faculties from different instis. So practically the aspirant is left with some Gyan which is of less use. This is my personal view. I hope I am not inviting any groans.
A bit of suggestions as per my discussion with Vishu over the phone today: - We can devide the slots for the counsellors available. For one hour I think two counsellors can manage it well.
- We can divide the counselling session too. Like Wednesday evening for freshers(appearing first time for CAT), some day for Working Junta, Some for 2nd time goers and so on and so forth...evry group has some common and some personalised problems. Say how to manage time with project and not let the PL know about it is particular to working junta and less use to a fresher. Moreover how many sections are there in CAT is not applicable to a person appearing 2nd or 3rd time
- Say out of 2 counsellors fixed for a day one or both are not available for that particular day we can always go ahead and request other two to volunteer.
- As of now we can start with the common prep fundas and as Nov approcahes we can move to institute specific/test specific counselling, where questions like do I need to know everything from the theory of evolution to globalisation in 21st century to score 2 marks out of 50 in IIFT test

Special sessions from experts. Vishu on how to clear interview without appearing. Me on how can 2 peg vodka on sat night and 1 on sunday morning affect your performance in XAT and so on and so forth

Yeah, we can take this topic as the next one!
Each counsellor can have a different say on the same!

I know views wud vary from person to person, let the aspirants try some methods and they'll realise what's best for them in few mocks!

Abt the problem of too many counsellors, currently we need ppl who took mocks in CAT 2006 so that they can guide ppl here for coming mocks! And abt less junta, well we'll try n promote this thing as banner somewhere! Also put up thread's link your signatures!
B schoolers and CAT2005 & before ppl can hold on for some time, their time wil come to counsel as well.

- Good Idea abt having separate sessions for freshers and working ppl! We'll plan this out! First I need to know the expertise level of counsellors
- Future plan can be made regarding colleges once notifications are out.. too early to discuss this
Current Focus will be only on -
- Mocks
- Improving QA, VA, DI, etc.
More soon

Do let me know the timings whenever it is. I would like a bit of notice as I am working as an intern and am in a diffrent time zone. If it is after a long time, say after I have returned to college, then please drop a mail to my college id. The moderators have it, I guess. I gave it for getting my tag.
Btw, I can give fundaes regarding mocks too if required. In 2005, I had taken the mocks of TIME, IMS, CF, CL and Career Avenues. But if it is felt latest fundaes are better due to the major changes in CAT pattern in 2006, then fine.

I would think it it better if others don't not come in in between for expert comments. Whereas it is nice to get a lot of diffrent ideas, it becomes a bit difficult if too many people start giving ideas at the same time. People who want more perspectives can probably attend more of the sessions. But I feel it would be much more organized if only the 2 stipulated counsellors give views.

Another topic many of the aspirants may be intrested in at this stage is 'Why MBA', 'Why MBA in India ?', 'Should I write CAT or GMAT?' Counselling on these kind of topics may also help at this stage. I guess there are people who want to know whether CAT is worth the fight before taking the plunge.
