the 42 batch of IIMC, 2005-2007 has only 28% freshers..PGDM PGDCM combined..now beat that.....Work ex of 3 years is an asset...except i will say for ibanks...in IIM......

Friends, does any problem arise in getting admission at IIM's due to more than 3 year work experience. I contacted the counsellor at IMS today, and was advised to go for GMAT,as my chances for CAT are scarce due to 3+ years of work experience.

I personally am interested in CAT,and haven't ever appeared for it.

Hope you guys would suggest me and guide me based on your experience or asking your friends who already got calls from IIM's

regards,

Yeah i-banks do prefer FRESHERS or the ones with relevant work-ex...
IT experience does not help.

Nyways, this is a digression from the main topic of discussion. 3-4 or even more yrs of work ex - an advantage - Yeah definitely it is...Period. A good GD and PI which justifies the career paradigm shift to MBA is the demarcating factor.

@raviagni

None better than me to reply to your query...

I will be some 20 days short of 7 years work ex. when I will join IIMA on 21st June. I had ACLIK,XLRI call and have converted all.

I haven't worked with any fancy company all these years and I don't belong to IITs or NITs or RECs either. And yes, I am an engineer all too ubiquitous!!!

4 yrs shudnt be a problem as far as getting in is concerned but dont expect to crack those i-banks, consults if your work ex isnt relevant unless -

U manage a top 10% rank in your class
OR
Have a fodu profile (preferably with an IIT tag)

This should be a better question to ask - Will I be able to do what I want to do in an IIM with 4 yrs work ex ??

If u cant, to hell with the IIMs, look for other options
If u dont know what u want to do u, write CAT, u wont lose anything

Insecurity in a student is the very basis of existence of instititutes like IMS...Lemme tell you that the counsellors in IMS are not astrologers to predict any outcome.I myself had 4 yrs of work ex this time and took the CAT for the second time but screwed up one section.Had only K and I calls, converted both.Converted XLRI as well...

Don't go by what someone else has to say...Decide what you want in life and go ahead!

All the Best!

Regards

Also, look for a specialisation that would help you leverage your work experience to the maximum. You definitely woudn't want to start at the entry level unless you are looking for a total shift in your career.

ok guys i think this should end all the debate
the below link is of iim a which shows that 5% of total student in a batch has above 3yrs of work exp and 29% has above one and half yrs of work exp
IIMA>Recruitment>Students Profile

A small query

If i take admission next yr...that is abt 3.5 yrs work ex at the time of joining...and incase I dont get thru IIMs ..rather take up some college of 95+ percentile range...which option do u suggest..fulltime MBA or a executive mba from a good college...please suggest elaborately..
