The CTC comprises of all the costs the company has to bear for employing u. It includes the electricity bill that u run up while using the computer at ur desk, it includes the free tea or coffee that u drink from the machines, it includes the rent of the office space that u occupy, it includes the cost of the various trainings given to u......and much much more.

every company has a different break-up of the actual salary that u get in hand. the ususal components will be : the basic sal, HRA, travel allowance, food allowance (which my b in the form of coupons), and the PF thats deducted from ur salary and the amount that the co. contributes.
the basic is fixed.
u can increase ur HRA to any limit which is non-taxable provided u produce the rent slips. u can check with ur company HR. also u shud increase the PF deductions from ur salary. on doing this u may feel that u r getting lesser in-hand today but then it has compounding interest.....
also some cos. offer food coupons ...get to kno the max limit of which u can get the coupons so that they remain tax-exempt.
all u need to do u sit with ur HR and discuss....

Do or Do not......there is no try.

Here is what is included in CTC salaries at GIM http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/b-scho...tml#post631469
Quoting VOODOOCHILE,
Different B-Schools compute the CTC differently. Usually it is provided by companies and most good companies are "ethical" about this figure.

At GIM, all "assured payments" to the employee in "monetary" terms are included in CTC. For eg: if there is a "guaranteed" fixed bonus payment at the end of the year, then it will be included in your CTC. A lot of perks are designed so as to save you from paying tax. Thus a perk like LTC which can be "en cashed" at the end of the year is also included in CTC.

Lets see what is NOT included in CTC at GIM. Items like phone bills, internet allowance are NOT included in the CTC. Also performance based (variable) pay will NOT be included in CTC, unless a minimum is specified.

I hope I made it clear.

This, I guess is one of the very fair and transparent systems. Other B-schoolers are also requested to state the same here on this thread so that we can have a better idea.
