Hi,
Ppl, I called up VGSOM , Kharagpur where I had paid an acceptance amount of 50K. Now I want to withdraw my acceptance. I sent them letters and faxes to refund the amount but to no avail. Finally when I spoke to the admissions co-ordinator, and told him about AICTE directive of deducting 1000/- only he said .. " U might know these rules, we dont know them.
We have not mentioned any provision for withdrawal. We will decide on the refund policy and get back"
I hope I get my money back.

I got thru MDI but have a waiting in fms and indore hence, while submitting the fees i asked them about the AICTE ruling
i assumed that they wld be following that....so just asked them about the dates and procedure to get the refund in case of a withdrawl..but they very simply said that sorry our admission committe has decided against that ruling......
this is really irritating and shocking , seems there is no authority which make sure that the guidelines given to these institutes are adheherd to... Calls: IIMI , FMS(FT) , FMS (MS) , MDI , XLRI (PMIR)
Finally : FMS(FT) WL- 26 ,IIMI - WL
Final Converts - XLRI MDI

I dunno, but i think if one is ready to hold on, unke baap ko bhi refund dena padega.....cause as i had pointed in one of my earlier posts on this thread, AICTE is the whole and sole regulator of MDI. Not only because of this AICETE directive, ....but there are a few instances last year where the B-schools had to refund money, but only to those who approached the consumer courts.
The only chink here would be that everything in many institutes is so delayed, that the institutes could take refuge behind the clause 'should the seat fall vacant and another student is available to fill up the vacant seat before the end of admission period'.
However, even then i believe these are exceptional circumstances as the delay in SC judgement on OBC issue caused significant delays everywhere else. The same delay thingie could help you...cause its exceptional situation for which neither you nor the institute is responsible......this could be a good enough cause to approach consumer court.
@TheOnly1,
I think you and me are in a similar situation......only difference in WL numbers at FMS. If at all i convert, i will try my best to get a refund...

Please follow the steps mentioned and you should get refund from the college provided the college falls under the ambit of AICTE :-
1. Form a group of people who are withdrawing from the college. You will find many people like you. Its better if 2-3 ppl put pressure on the institute. {even if you are alone doesn't matter}.
2. Write a mail to the admissions commitee of the college saying that you want to cancel the admission. The format should be identical to the one the institute have for refund fee. Just make sure that you mention in the letter about the AICTE directive quoting the Advertisement Number and the content of it briefly. Ask them for a reply and acknowledgement of your mail. Also sent a HARDCOPY of the mail, add an acknowledgement card to that mail even if its a speed post (that way you will know who had received that mail) to the institute and keep a copy of that with you for record purpose.
3. Send a mail to AICTE (Rajesh Kumar Grievence Cell in particular) clearly mentioning the stand taken by the institute. Its very easy for the institute to deny you your money over phone(there is no record for it), but very difficult to do in mail. Send the mail in HARDCOPY as well and wait for their response. You might find their mail box overflowing, but keep trying.
4. In case the institute doesn't reply to you mail in 4-5 days, sent them a reminder mail with CC to AICTE people. Even here you have to send a hard copy to them. Call the institute authorities regularly to know their stand on this.
I hope these steps will help you as it has helped many of us. For us AICTE had replied, directing the institute to pay the refund and in case they don't do so, AICTE will withdraw the Affiliation(Its a different thing that the institute had already decided to refund). AICTE will definetely come to your rescue.
Lastly BEST OF LUCK.
P.S - In case you have queries you can send a PM.

i will definitely follow the procedure as adviced by you in case they dont adhere to the ruling...
Also , i am unaware of the XL's decision on this issue...i had submitted the fee there as well...i have submitted Rs. 20,000 there and according to them i must get only 10,000 but when i called them and told them about the ruling then they told that they are aware of the ruling and they will take the appropriate decision...
but i havent got back any refund so far..... Calls: IIMI , FMS(FT) , FMS (MS) , MDI , XLRI (PMIR)
Finally : FMS(FT) WL- 26 ,IIMI - WL
