Hello !
The morning of 7th april has brought with it shocking news......... Admissions to ALL central instis will be stopped with immediate effect. This includes the IIMs, IITs, IIFT, NITIE, FMS and others.

This is horrible. Sorry to open a new thread for this, but I thought this deserved one.
Its time for action again. Something has to be done. There is no way out of this impasse otherwise as I see it. The institutes cant go against the SC, nor can they ignore the HRD ministry directive.

Hello !
I think we need to move beyond merely showing our frustration. We need to do something. Does anybody know whats the process for filing a PIL in the SC ?
As I see it, this thing will not be resolved for a few months. I think its highly unlikely that the SC will lift the stay especially when there has been NO change in anything. and the HRD ministry will refuse to let the admissions go ahead till the stay is lifted. So its pretty much an impasse.
The only way out would be intervention by the affected parties ( us ) in the form of a PIL. After all, its our future thats on the line....

Hey Harshadk,
For filing the PIL: You can file it online on SC's website for a nominal fee.. Even if someone do not have a lawyer, SC can arrange the same for him..
The argument on which we can fight the case is: Since some of the candidates will in any case be assured of the selection, so IIMs should go ahead with announcing the results of seats (which are already there without the increment). Then if SC's stay is vacated the OBC candidates and some more GEN candidates can be given calls together with the announcements of Waiting List. Also the OBC candidate who got through GEN can now be transferred back to OBC cat.
Hard Work is not known to have killed anybody, but Why take a chance?

Get stay on OBCs case vacated: UPA allies

All efforts to ensure that current academic year is not lost, says Yechury
NEW DELHI: Constituents of the United Progressive Alliance and the Left parties supporting it asked the Manmohan Singh Government on Friday to move the Supreme Court to get the stay on reservation for the Other Backward Classes in central institutions of higher education vacated.
"It was resolved that the Government will take all appropriate steps to ensure that reservation for the OBCs to the extent of 27 per cent becomes operational from this academic session," an official release said at the end of the over two hour-long meeting at the Prime Minister's 7 Race Course residence.
Though the statement did not elaborate on what steps the Government would take, Left party leaders Sitaram Yechury and Abani Roy briefed correspondents separately about the decisions arrived at.
Mr. Yechury, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and MP, said the unanimous opinion was that all efforts be made to ensure that the current academic year was not lost. It was for the Government to move the apex court.
Admissions on hold
The meeting said institutions that had expanded capacity to cater for the additional intake would be asked to put admissions on hold, so that the extra seats were not filled.
The UPA allies and the Left parties authorised Dr. Singh to consult other political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, so that all could be taken on board.
Even the official statement said the Government would consult other political parties.
On the issue of census, Mr. Yechury said there could be nothing like a comprehensive OBC list since it varied from one State to another.
On the question of the creamy layer, he said it was introduced by the apex court in the case of job reservation for OBCs. Besides the Prime Minister, the meeting was attended by his Cabinet colleagues, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan and leaders of the UPA's allies.

What we need firstly is information regarding the following..........
1) What steps is the HRD ministry taking to move things ahead ? there was some talk of a hearing by a special bench of the SC next week. any news on that ?
2) Does the HRD ministry have any deadline to solve this issue so that the academic calender starts on time ?
3) what if the SC is adamant on staying quotas, and the HRD ministry on staying admissions till the quotas are approved ? do we do our MBA in our next lives in such a case ?
