Re: Results Frozen ! Admission to ALL central institutes stayed ! -

Don't know whether this was posted before...But the status at the IIM A site shows something like tis now:
Update (8.30 PM, 12-4-2007) on Admission for PGP 2007-09 batch The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India vide letter 14-4-0/2007-TS.II dated 5th April 2007, has advised IIMs and other central educational institutions not to issue any offers of admissions for the ensuing academic year 2007-09 until further communication from the Ministry. The Directors of six IIMs discussed this matter and jointly decided not to issue any offers till April 21, 2007.
IIM-A will start the process of issuing the offer letters on April 21, 2007. To begin with, the number of offer letters would be limited up to 250, i.e. the level of intake prevailing in the last academic year (2006-2007). Subsequently, after hearing from the Ministry regarding the status of the reservation policy, if required, additional list of up to 30 students (including OBCs) will be prepared and offer letters will be sent to these students. The increase in intake of up to 30 seats is as per the agreement with the Moily Committee in the context of implementation of 6% reservation for OBCs.
Thus, the admission status to applicants to IIM-A with respect to the initial list of up to 250 students can be accessed from IIM-A website after 11 AM on April 21, 2007.

puys,
IIM A increased seats from 250 to 280
so last year total strength is 250
in that SC(15%) = 37.5 = 38
ST (7.5) = 18.75 = 19
PWD (3%) = 7.5 = 8
so we have 185
this year they have called 608 general for 192 seats and 55 OBC for 17 seats
the possible lists are
1) they will include every body so 663 competing for 185 seats (total number are 608+55 but seats are according to last years count i.e. 185)
2)
a) in second list if SC n HRD approves
Quota, then they will allot seats 192 - x (where x is the numbers of offers they have made to general quota) to general category
and 17 - y
(where y is the numbers of offers made to OBC category) to OBC category
b) if SC n HRD doesnot approve quota there wont be any list

As per my understanding the way it works is all the general seats are for general people & those OBC people who satisfy the general cut off criteria.
So imagine if no new list comes for OBC guys then the lsoers would be:
1. OBC guys who were going to get admission under quota ( barring 5-6 who wil lqualify in general).
2. General people whose seats would be taken by eleigible OBCs( because if reservation was implemnted these seats would have been free).
3. General people who would have got admission against increased seats in general category.
My experience from IIT says that there were lots of OBC candidates who qualified from general merit.
So this year when percentage was only 6% ( out of total 27%) not much benefit was accuring to OBC guys( as these many people would have qualified in general category anyways). So some genral guys stand to lose.
Also the OBC fellow who would have got say only I,K or L call but now got A, B or C call also because of reservaiton will stand to lose if took lightly his interviews of lesser IIMs or did not pursue the option of other colleges.

Reservations never existed for OBCs at IITs and IIMs till date. How do you know about the OBC candidates?

I really hope that such students dont get disadvantaged because of the quotas getting repealed.

Sire... thank you for the beligerent concern, but please ensure that you read posts above yours before giving the classically expert opinions!
Once and for all... Guys, any OBC candidate, or any candidate whatsoever for that matter will not be mistreated. if an OBC candidate secures the general cutoff in CAT, and has a satisfactory performance in the GDPI, he/she would be eligible for admission in the general category.
the others, well... nothing.
that means if an OBC student has a 99.22 in one section, 99.95 overall, and has absolutely rocked his GDPI will not be considered for admission to IIM A - just like a general student was not called for the GDPI sessions - for not meeting the cutoffs.
I hope i make myself clear.
whats worse...
not being judged fairly, or not being judged at all
i wonder...

Hi puys
I'm not sur ewhether this has been posted before, but came across it right now so decided to share it anyways.
Check out the news item at Centre to move SC to get 'stay' vacated
It categorically states there are going to be 2 lists, the first one would be the usual list as always, for 1350 students. The second one would depend on the decision taken by the Supreme court and would comprise of 157 candidates if quota is implemented.
Hopefully this should clear some doubts and we could have less speculations floating around. I also believe the Government is going to move SC today to get the stay order vacated, however no new updates on that issue.

This 'today' stuff is not ending at all. There are only two possibilities. Either the petition has to walk n reach the SC n get itself filed because these people are not planning to or arjun singh is walking to the SC with the petition in his hand, might reach there by today.
Why cant they file it?? It is 2 now. When do they plan to?? First it was Friday n now Monday.. Hope the filing at least ends today. Then would start the next 1, judgement. Dont know when these people are gonna finish this. This procedure seems to be longer than the admission' procedure.
