I agree with you that media saw a good plot here and thats why took it up, but personally i'm glad the media is covering this comedy of errors in its entirety for we are the one who could gain by some speedy action, whether it be from pressure from IIMs or the media. I guess the letters to the editors are paying off

It just happens to be the case that Mr Dholakia is front-ending the entire exercise. And that is probably why he is the director of IIM-A.
So there is no question of a single person hogging the limelight. They are not politicians deriving any political mileage over this issue. They are professionals and know how to do their jobs.

Update on IIM-A admissions site:

Update (8.30 PM, 12-4-2007) on Admission for PGP 2007-09 batch

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India vide letter 14-4-0/2007-TS.II dated 5th April 2007, has advised IIMs and other central educational institutions not to issue any offers of admissions for the ensuing academic year 2007-09 until further communication from the Ministry. The Directors of six IIMs discussed this matter and jointly decided not to issue any offers till April 21, 2007.

IIM-A will start the process of issuing the offer letters on April 21, 2007. To begin with, the number of offer letters would be limited up to 250, i.e. the level of intake prevailing in the last academic year (2006-2007). Subsequently, after hearing from the Ministry regarding the status of the reservation policy, if required, additional list of up to 30 students (including OBCs) will be prepared and offer letters will be sent to these students. The increase in intake of up to 30 seats is as per the agreement with the Moily Committee in the context of implementation of 6% reservation for OBCs.

Thus, the admission status to applicants to IIM-A with respect to the initial list of up to 250 students can be accessed from IIM-A website after 11 AM on April 21, 2007.

The Ministry of HRD in there Central Education Institute reservation act says that the census which they have used is not taken from 1931 report...they have taken this frm 1980 Mandal Comm figure from which the figure 52% OBC`s in country came from.

Hi puys.....

So many things happening around here....I am sure that if we can get through this it will make a good bed time story for our kids . WE can be THE batch at IIMs...

well, thats the lighter side of the story. The sad part is that the double stalemate is now a triple one with IIMs throwing in new complications. Moreover, our dearest HRD minister is not happy with the IIMs for declaring the final dates. In fact he went on to say that these institutes run on public money and hence they are answerable to the govt. Media's role also comes in question here.....I listened to the whole conference y'day but in today's newspapers it is projected completely as IIMs going against hrd sort of thing and no emphasis on the reasons given by Prof dholakia for going on with the admission process. He properly explained the reasons why he can't wait beyond 21st april (preparatory course etc etc) but it finds no mention in any of the newspapers. (btw my A interview was conducted by Prof dholakia :neutral: ).

I don't know whom to trust now....for me this stalemate is quadraple as I am getting pressurized by my boss to take up a new project :( .

Why my fate depends upon so many things over which I don't have any control. :(

IIMA site says that they will keep 6% seats for OBCs. I oversee some fireworks. 21st April seems to be an unrealistic deadline.

But for the love of God, let it be 21st April > i am gonna die of Anticipation.

in this scenario, i think the best thing that could happen is for the SC to vacate the stay. That is the best solution i guess since a majority(including the minorities!) of ppl will be happy with it.. increase in seats, implementation of OBC quota.. n d best of them all.. we wil get our results quickly!
