Although this article is older than the one cited just before.. I think it has a more hopeful ring to it

Not very relevant to us, but yet an update:
Govt examining all options to resolve quota issue

Govt examining all options to resolve quota issue
April 10, 2007 15:01 IST
With 27 per cent Other Backward Classes quota in Central institutions of higher learning caught up in legal wrangles, Government on Tuesday said it was examining all options under the law to resolve the issue at the earliest."The Supreme Court in its interim order stated that it would be desirable to keep on hold the operation of this Act so far as it relates to OBCs. The government is examining all legal options to resolve this issue at the earliest," HRD Minister Arjun Singh said.
He told a two-day conference of State Education Ministers here that the recommendations of Fatmi Committee for giving a boost to minority education were also under consideration.
Referring to the amendment carried out in Article 15 of the Constitution, which enabled reservation for SCs, STs and other Socially and economically backward classes in admission in educational institutions, Singh reminded that he had urged chief ministers to enact state-specific legislations for the purpose.
Noting only six States -- Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Prakash and Uttarakhand -- have so far enacted such laws, he sought feedback from other states on the issue.
The conference has been called to deliberate on issues concerning elementary, secondary, higher and technical education with particular focus on the commencement of the XIth Plan.

at sometime point of time they will have to tell the government that enough is enough.

as fas as joining iim any time is easier said than done. i have already paid 46k as confirmation fees to NUS. my draft of 20k for XLRI is on its way. so 66k is already lost.
adding to it my bank balance is decreasing at a faster than indian cricket teams form.
if the results get delayed by 2-3 weeks i would have to pay 155000 to xlri and get my seat confirmed. although i am a general category student but i dont have surplus money to pay each and every college. just for the information this is my 4th attempt at iims.

every year i have refused offers from other private colleges just to get in an iim. at this point of time u wont accept any practical answers. the prof has given an answer which 99 out of 100 people would give. but its the other 1 person who will make a difference. the time has come when studies should be separated from political control. this kind of defensive attitude will not help the colleges as well as the students.

ankit
"the main point which i want to highlight here is that the iims should break the political shackles." Do you think its so easy and at first point is it possible. Dont forget IIT/IIM were started by the govt and are govt institutes. Its your choice whether you want to study in govt or private school.

One thing that can be done is to start more private instis like ISB so that we dont need to depend on govt instis for education, just like we have a lots of private schools and no parent want to send their children to those govt schools no matter how much the fee difference is.

But today that's not the case so we need to wait when we have plethora of private instis and much greater choice.

"the time has come when studies should be separated from political control. this kind of defensive attitude will not help the colleges as well as the students." -- i think justthe opposite of this. It the time to join the politics. Remember Yuva

"Loha hi lohe ko katata hai" ( damm I dont know the english verse but its fine)

This can form a good case study for the next years GD/PI for IIMs
Lets wait till the 12th. There will be some updates then.
And friends, the source of IIM C Profs statement?? I also heard that students do get to know the results beforehand because they are the ones who upload..Is it true?
Do post updates if anyone calls up other IIMs too.

With a pile of 300 résumés on his desk and a need to pick someone quickly, my boss told me to make calls on the bottom 50 and toss the rest.
"Throw away 250 résumés?" I asked, shocked.
"What if the best candidates are in there?"
"You have a point," he said.
" But then again, I don't need people with bad luck here ."

Rightly said, Anything can happen moreso when Indian Govt is working at it. IT can derail a smooth sailing admission process in few hours so it can accomplish a lot more in 48 hours.
