Exactly my thoughts Subodh. The day SC announced stay on reservation I was of the opinion that the people at helm would take decisions taking into consideration the aspirations of students. But what followed is an ugly mess.
I feel that once the admission process is started it should not be changed midway. Any changes that are to be done should be done from the next academic year.
Maybe at IIT's where it is yet to start, they can put this on hold by considering a OBC as general category student.

Well when you can get better job and a better paying position why not use it. If you don't use it you are called dumb for not using the opportunity. Again if you use it we call it misusing the opportunity.

People have been telling me for the last 2 years I have been working that I should write GMAT and do a foreign MBA. I decided not to go for it. I was not prepared to spend 5-6 years of my life outside india (time taken to repay the loan!).
When this quota issue cropped up in first place, it hit me hard. I felt dis-illusioned. I gathered myself. I maintained all positive attitude harping that all is not lost.
Until very recently in the IIM interviews, I used to strongly defend my desire to do something for my country. I think I did well. Because I believed in what i said.
Suddenly I am feeling disillusioned again. Maybe its no big deal, the results will get delayed by a few weeks and in the end everybody would be happy. Its maybe nothing in importance when compared to the quota issues last year. But somehow this has hit me very hard - call it the last nail in the coffin.
If the politicians of our country cant give up there vote bank politics on such simple matters, then god save the country!! General category seats are different from reserved, arent they? So why stop their results? Just because they know that if they allow General Category results, then OBC quota will go into so called "thanda basta" at least for this year. So they deliberately bring us in the line of fire, and therefore the IIMs (who have to take students) and indirectly also the Supreme Court.
Suddenly I dont have any problems in going and settling abroad. Suddenly I can see the point of all my friends who moved to US. Not to say that my point got invalidated, but yeah I see there point too. And I wish them all the best!

At times I feel really nice to read such posts. People, out of the IIT's and other big shot colleges, give up their desires to go abroad just for the sake of contributing something to the country. Staunch jingoism! I salute your sentiments.
But just because the IIM’s, the puppets at the hands of the HRD, postpone their results and all these sentiments vanish in a fraction of a second. I agree that the postponement of the results is a damned idea per se, but surely is not good enough a reason for you to change your own fundamentals outrightly. How do such sentiments vanish immediately just due to a directive by the HRD to the IIM’s? Yes, the results would be delayed but for sure not cancelled. The deserving students, be it general category or others, would finally find themselves slogging at the IIM’s, anyways.

Well you have taken my words. Well apart from lesser fees (I dont know if tehy were required to pay any fees on th first place) in IIT B they are given mess allowance. Allowed to borrow more books from library than general category ( what is this it looks like only they are their to learn )
I can understand your agony. Many of them in my batch has bought comp, cells while most of us need to wait for 2-3 yrs or till graduation to buy them.
But I think they too are not at fault. Truly speaking if someone is presented a chance why wont he make the use of it.

I personally completed the M.Tech project work of one such moron. That guy would come over to me and beg that otherwise he would not pass. I feel like killing myself now, YES i did something WRONG.
|
Isnt 7 a big number. In IITB 7.3 was the class avg.
As far as moron thing goes -- its not that they dont want to put in the efforts but their efforts always seems to fall short . And its quite natural. In IITs and IIMs where you have relative grading some one has to be at the bottom and most of the time they are there.

Why apply it to IIT and IIM only
If anyone inyour family has benefited from the quota be in teh form of job, or resevation in IIT,IIM or in UPSC exams then no other from the family should be allowed to take the advantage of quota.

this is how he/they will explain.
1) merit is not everthing. there are many more thinks apart from merit. And merit is based ona very filmsy definition. Just by answering few objectives questions with more speed for which you have prepared with the help of coaching institues you cant say that you have qualified based on merit.
2) OBC constitute 52% of the total population. we are still providing with only 27% of the reservation and leaving a large chunk for you.
3) We will provide the institute with all the necessary funding and help to implement the quota.
4) You all like our children. We dont want to harm anybody. We wil see that interests of no community are affected. We will increase teh no of seats to that gen category seats are not reduced.
5) Agitation is not a correct way to say your things. These things need to be sorted out in a harmonious way through mutual discussion. people need to think with a cool mind as this was not a matter to get provoked or to indulge in violence. This will neither help any individual or state
6) Constitution is above all. you cant take the constituion in your hands and go against it. We need to obey and follow what's there in the constitution
हवामे ताश का घर नही बनता|
रोने से बीगडा मुक्कदर नही बनता|
दुनीया को जीतने का होसला रखो यारो|

Friends,
How about taking our woes to the notice of media??
I mean issues such as the one happened to one of our mates in IIFT(The guy who left his job).
We can also tell media how badly the working ppl need the results to be out early?
Some of us have to inform our managers 2-3 months early that we will be leaving the organization(if selected)...
ofcourse...Media(News papers etc..) may not be in a position to solve our problem ..but our suffering will be known to the public.......
give a thought to it if u like the idea...... ??:

yaar dilip,
you have written very enthusiastically.. allow me to appease you at least on this point.. nobody could be oblivious to the difficulty that this person is in right now.. on a personal level, he has just fallen prey to this messy circumstance and as i mentioned in my earlier post, I do understand his position.
but on a general perspective, with regard to this whole reservation policy, even though ppl have have kept saying again and again that even if for arguments's sake reservations for backward classes are acceptable, in reality, they are exploited mostly by ppl who are not really disadvantaged in any respect, there hasn't even been any commitment (let alone action) to prevent this. Don't you think that from that point of view, this person is a good example of how the quotas are in reality going to ppl who don't need it?

he got an option marked it....I am sure most of the Forward caste guys will mark FC if there was an option for FC and say a reservation of 30%.....Common guys grow up..... Its a competetive world and everybody will try to take watever advantage they can take.... And by no means is this illegal......
|
u are right, it is a fundamental right.. just as it is your fundamental right to keep sitting in a bus in front of an old lady.. u'll be outraged by this comparison, but to me, it's just a question of where u draw the line. it's true he is not at fault.. what he has done is not illegal and in his shoes, 99.99% of the ppl would have done the same... but at least admit that though the laws propounded by our august politicians makes his free ride legal, that reservation was not really intended for somebody in his position.. he is going in because there aren't enough safguards to guarantee that the reserved seats go to ppl who really need it.. the stakes are high.. the environment is competitive as you say.. so it's hard to resist.. but all of that does not make it right, does it?

Debates are welcome(whoever wants to say the guy had no rights to sob come up with some valid points it can be countered easily....I strongly feel he is the most affected and should get his seat)....

I assure u again that nobody here is blind to the plight of a person in difficulty.

No Use..
Media is too busy ruminating Cricketer's contracts.. Those who last 3 days get so much attention.. Man, I am jealous...
They will only remember IIMs when someone will get 1 crore offer..
Hard Work is not known to have killed anybody, but Why take a chance?

It is indeed a very good idea. If our worries come out in the media, the govt will have to act fast. The entire country will be watching. The two issues here are..
1) Will the media help us. Someone rightly pointed out that they are over-involved in cricket.
2) How do we approach the media. I have never done that.
I think we are discussing too much over the reservation issue. That will always be a debate. The issue here is of timing, and for a lot of people.
1) Deadlines to pay fees to other institutes is fast approaching. It will affect people who calls in other good institues. They will find it difficult to just leave those calls. And if they actually pay the amount and later make it to the IIMs, it will be monetary loss for them.
2) Working proffessionals are in big time trouble, if there is any delay.
I am in favour of approaching the media with these issues, question is how??
