IIM-A to make position on admission clear on April 21 Ahmedabad, April 19 (PTI): Even as the Supreme Court has posted the hearing on quota in elite educational institutions case on April 23, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), yesterday said it will make its position on admission to the coming academic session clear on April 21.
"We will make our postion on admission clear on April 21," IIM-A Director Bakul Dholakia told yesterday night.
The six IIMs had given a virtual ultimatum to the government that they would go ahead with the admissions without the OBC quota for the coming academic session if they did not hear anything from the government by April 21 following the Supreme Court's stay on it.
Sources at the IIM-A, however, said that in the wake of today's development they are likely to study the court order, discuss it with other members and then arrive at a conclusion.
After the Supreme Court's stay on implementation of 27 per cent OBC quota in centrally-funded instituions like IIMs and IITs, the Union HRD Ministry had directed the IIMs to put on hold the admission process till further order.
However, Dholakia, on behalf of the the six IIMs, had last week said they cannot wait indefinitely and will announce the admission list by April 21.
"The admission list will be as per last year's capacity. The institutes will wait for the government directive on the expanded intake to accomodate OBC quota rather than staying the entire admission process," he had said.
"We were to complete the admission process by April 12. But we have decided to wait and release the list on April 21," Dholakia had said.

Looks like the IIMs will come out with another update rather than the results on Saturday. I hope I am wrong, but I think thats what will happen

The SC on Monday would be hearing the Centre's plea for its maintainability. If it finds it maintainable, which is highly unlikely, the SC might give a date for further hearing which would certainly be in May. And if at all the government manages to get such a date, it would further get the energy to pressurise the IIMs not to declare the results. I think now its high time to move the court, as the IIMs, being government institutes, cannot do much about it...

I dont understand why they are waiting for april 21 ..last time also they did like that they waited until april 12 to make a decision on the admission hold instruction from mhrd

if u honestly believe that financing, resigning blah blah is so big a problem so that u cant even wait for 2 more days for the result and that your entire life would be spoilt with the delay in result, than god knows wot u ll do when u r (a) inside the skool and (b) in some position of responsibility after graduating from the skool.

We are already in a position of responsibility unless you classify studying in an IIM and then getting a campus job as the only tasks of responsibility.


Crazy Dude,

You really have some solid views and perhaps you can be of great help in providing alternative view-points on Chit-Chat threads. (You already have visited them and spread some liberal dose of groans on my posts )

So it will be better if you spend your spare time there and write some enlightening posts. (I still consider your first post as above average but too-much one-liners are uncalled for). You can have liberty to collate all your normal curves, Correlation, Regression funda there to make killing arguments..

But at least leave this thread. I know you might be having a great deal of spare time due to watever reason. But posting in Chit-Chat is much more productive use.

Agree with you buddy.. Isn't there a lawyer among us, who can file a PIL??

Or some really nice person who can take the initiative. I myself wud have liked to take it but am not clear about finer nuances. Besides, filing a PIL and then arguing the case might well enhance our knowledge about legal loopholes or legal fences.

Also, can it be termed as a case of Consumer Courts?? As in this case we are IIMs consumers.

a decision would be taken on April 20 when the directors of the six IIMs meet in New Delhi. A highly placed source in IIM-Ahmedabad said the IIMs would wait and watch.

So the IIM directors are meeting on 20th in New Delhi. Hope they can convince Arjun Singh to release the results.

i have a doubt on the judiciary now ..even for analysing the legal validity of the petition made by goverment which directly adn indirect affect so many people they are fixing the case on 23 with out giving it on the same day...


i think if we put a petition now they will fix the date in june and will give a judgement for the same after the results are out
