The Definitive Guide to cutoffs - 29-11-2002, 12:06 PM

Hello Junta,

Me n Ravi decided to post a definitive guide to the cutoffs so that all of us can get a better idea as to possible cutoffs.

Lets start with the largest of em all:
IMS

Possible Cut off for a call from the IIMs 65+
Possible Cut off for a call from MDI / S P Jain 60 +
Possible Cut off for a call from TAPMI / Others 56 +

Their Note :
The cut-offs given below are purely an indicative figure. The actual cut-offs of IIMs will depend on many factors, which are unknown and specific to each IIM. To get a sure call from the IIMs a score of 70+ is sufficient. But there are chances for student with a score between 65-70 also to get a call provided he/she matches the other criteria which the IIMs might have such as educational background, work experience, academic performance etc

Sectional Cut Offs:
Sec 1 - 20 - 23
Sec 2 - 17 - 20
Sec 3 - 20 - 23

Career Launcher:
In the given time constraint 85 of these should have been attempted. Attempts of 85+ with 85% accuracy can be termed excellent.

A score of 70 with sectional cut-offs satisfied will certainly result in an IIM call. A score of 75+ with sectional cut-offs satisfied will result in calls from all the IIMs. A score of 60+ should fetch calls from MDI, S.P.Jain. Institutes like TAPMI, MICA should call persons with a score of 50+. Other institutes like IMI and FORE should call candidates with a score of 45+.

Sectional Cut offs:
Sec 1 - 18
Sec 2 - 15
Sec 3 - 22

Cut Offs for definite calls 68 - 70

Career Forum:

Minimum percentile score will be 95 for atleast 1IIM call.
Overall Cut off for 1 - 2 IIM Call/s: 64 - 66
Overall Cut off for 3 - 4 IIM Calls: 72 - 74
Overall Cut off for 5 - 6 IIM Calls: 80 - 82

PG Note: CF has posted individual sectional cut offs for all the above possibilities on their website.

TIME:
A student who has attempted 80-90 questions in this paper has done an excellent job if he has a good strike rate of say, 75%.

The cut-offs in the different sections for getting calls from one or two IIMs should be as under:

Sections Cutoffs
DI/DS/Reasoning 12-14
Quantitative Ability 10-12
Verbal Ability & RC 15-17

In order to get one or two calls, a net score of 50-52 would be sufficient. A score of 60+ would fetch 4+ calls.

Other top institutes under CAT will need scores of 45-50 in this paper. But, note that a number of these institutes may not have sectional cut-offs, and they may look at only the total score in the paper.

It is necessary to understand that these net scores are what can be obtained under the severe pressure that the exam puts on the candidate. Fancy analysis done in the cool confines of an air-conditioned room will invariably talk of higher scores. Such analysis, for some strange reason, seems to forget that students are operating under pressure. While each individual question is not very difficult, collectively these are pretty time-consuming and hence, the number of total attempts is always a constraining factor.

*End*

I and Ravi are working out a way to get the entire paper online along with the answers Give us some time and thank ravi for trying to make it happen.

Warmest Regards,

i guess it cant be used as of now as the cutoffs mentioned by the institue are very over rated here.also both the number of questions, the type of mraks assinged to them, and the difficulty level of cat has changed.for a more realistic cutoff pg will again have to contact those instis and get hold of it.as far as c.l goes thr teacher told me that 66+ will ensure me call from 8iims when there are only 6.so its like if ur above 66 then u are sure to get calls from all iims.nehow lets c if pg has time to get the new cutoffs frm instis
ciao

The cut off's seem to be a bit on the higher side to moi... maybe it was different in 2002... this year at least, our (IMS) instructor was talking something like

QA : 15
DI : 16
Eu: 23

Not concerned about the last two so much, have been getting there usually but am working on QA, in which I only aim to clear the cut off with low attempts and 100% accuracy... if its up around 18-20... then... er...
