For me ...I was looking at CAT as one which can really change my profile...There is a lot of difference between a Sales Person with MBA & with out an MBA.....So, to put it to the point..All I wanted is an IIM tag in my life which after 7 years of experience will be a value addition & this is my first/last try at CAT.....

Why I wanted to do an MBA is simply because I am sick & tired of my mundane job.The regular well paying job is a farce bcoz most IT companies has a component called variable pay and a new term CTC(Cost to company) so the actual carrry home salary I get in my company is ridiculously very less.

I am on the bench for the past 2 months and it is excepted for another 2 months. You talk about value addition...the only value addition is to master the art of not getting frustated by sitting idle.

To sum up, the whole issue of getting a post graduate degree enhances your value in the job market and if it is MBA and that too from a premier institute, it is like a cherry on the cake.

5. no one gets bored of their careers after iim, on average they change jobs almost every 2-3 yrs &
also their work profile.
6. every other good institute requires atleast 95%ile

hope these are enough reasons for a person to do

awesome point! an entrepreneur from IIM gets an immense amount of free PR...particularly because its a nice story for the media. People like to read about guys who went to an IIM and then started something....rather than taking up yet another job.
At times its sad for the other entrepreneurs - but the 2 years u save by not doing an MBA...gives u 2 additional years to make ur business succeed....and then you can actually employ some iim chaps!

  • why the people who started idli dosa or lingerei business after IIM do it.u dnt need an IIMto tell u how to start it.
  • and even if u want to make a career in guitar and alll that crap then why the heck r u doing this M.B.A and that too from IIM and defeating the purpose.
  • you should create jobs .
  • and the boottom line if the same people who did mba from IIM started this all crap without that IIM tag nobody have noticed them

Abhi Ji! am not bhai am a behen

Well the only IIM alumni's business I was aware of was an idli business Talk about eye openers Well, yes these guys do receive a lot of media coverage and then everyone just forgets about it!

There have been successful businessmen from IIMs too- Mehul Choksi of Gili Diamonds but he already had a family business waiting for him - he grew it into what it is

The Renuka Sugars guy is one - don't remember the name but sure IIMs always don't rake out successful businessmen but we love to know about the ones who are there and have reaches moolah heights and isn't that one more reason to get infatuated with IIMs?

Well this comes frm a bloke who is at the fag end of his MBA course...i gav CAT juss once in 2004 and i dont intend to give it again...still wud like to pitch in wid my 2 paisa
Lemme tell u hw i got into a B Skool...was juss another confused soul doin mah Grads in Eco...decided MBA is the best way to land a safe and secure job...gav CAT..managed to get into a decent B Skool...but the time i hav spent here has made me realise me one thing...although people follow this rat race to get into a B Skool...people who make their own path are going to fare far better...i fully agree wid Eka...the opportunities that are out there are juss mind boggling...luk arnd peeps...it is juss the rite time to try...and there is no shame in trying and then failing...i mite be sounding very artificial here having landed a cushy job and preaching...but believe me...the opportunities are juss immense...i wud say work...the market is willing to recogonize the rite Grad talent...this is the boom period...it seriously makes no sense for fresh Grads to jump into the B Skool at this point...i can assure u the amt of learning that u get in a B Skool after u hav sum experience is a quantum jump...and not to forget the lure of Lateral Placements

Re: Why are you writing CAT 2007? :| - 17-03-2007, 05:59 PM

Right after my college thought i'll nvr land up having a gud job........
So the CAT motto waz

CAT 2004
Motto: "Kuch toh karne hein B.E. kee baad toh why not MBA"
Expectations: "Kuch bhi mil jaye yaar chalega, kar lenge".....even B grade or below...

Thnx to the indian IT boom, daam evry1 gets a job now, in IT atleast.....Managed to get into TOP IT company....The B garde MBA offer started lookin bad now..
CAT Result:Managed a B school but expectations whr higher so left them.....

CAT 2005

Motto: IT sucks sucks sucks sucks sucks......Iss field see bahar aana hein yaar.......
Aim was some thng like B+ grade or A grade schools.....As it always haappens november mein work load baad jaata hein naa jaane kyo (Murphy laws)...CAt got skewed....
CAT result:Still managed few calls...Thy whr for me the dream B - schools in 2004 but 2005 again the expectations where different.........
Frusutuated i left the job thnking of another shot......Joined another top IT company....

CAT 2006:
Motto:Have top see my self in a middle management role before im 30.....
Expectation:Only aim was IIM's and Othr top ten (My current package didnt allowed me to join ny thng below that, by this time)......
CAT result: 1 of my Biggest mistake........Skewed it really big time......again coz of some major delivery pending.....
Managed few more soo called decent calls, but expectations ths time whr too high....

CAT2007:
Motto:
Expectation:
CAT result:

Bhagwan kee home mein delay hein darkness nahi..... .......
