i am taking the cat 2007 to prove a point to my parents,my brother and maybe even prove a point to myself...
i have always been an under acheiver when it has come to academics...

10th-my teachers expected big things from me,so did my parents, even i studied really really hard...dunno what went wrong with maths and english,i scored 88% in my icse..dejected,because i wanted and expected atleast 92%...

anyways i had to move on...confusion regarding what should i pursue in 12th(arts,science or commerce)..i never had aspirations of becoming an engineer or a doctor or for that matter a ca and the only thing i wanted to be was an entrepreneur and i was quite clear about that from the very begining...however i still took up science because ppl advised me that opting for science wud keep my options open for later if i wanted to pursue technical education...so i took up science in dps, rourkela and somehow completely lost track of studies as i started concentrating on my family buisness...studying physincs and chemistry seemed useless to me...what a wrong attitude it was,and if people in their 11th 12th are reading i would request you all to be very faithful to your studies throughout your academic career....used to come back from school at 3 and go to our mfg. unit with my dad...infcat 11-12 was so so bad that come feb mid 2003,15 days before my cbse i was so out of touch that i got a measly 6 and 9 out of 70 in physics and chemistry respectively in school mocks...slogged my ass for 15 days for 10 hrs daily along with watching the cricket world cup and somehow managed a 68 percent...again i felt hard done because i just got a 64 in english although i had writen quite a good paper and was expecting 90+,more so since i had been always getting good marks in english in my terminals..

this score ruled out my chance of getting an admission into any decent college for bcom like the xaviers and du colleges and i simply din want to go get though back doors so i decided to shift to jamshedpur to do my bcom(h) from a very modest college affiliated to ranchi university...i made this decision because i wanted to be involved in the project we were setting up there....remained in touch with studies along with working hard and at end of three years graduated with a decent 69% but the three years of labour i had put in the mfg unit bore me no fruits because the mfg unit we we were planning to set up could not be set up unfortunately due to some misunderstandings in my family even after a creation of a compnay, acquiring of land, purchase of machinery and construction of boundary wall and many other initial things which i had initiated..there was a bitter family seperation in my family and after a turn of very strange events we shifted to kolkata...now this was a very difficult phase in my life as well as my father's and my elder brother's life...we had to leave a 26 yr old company and start afresh...i decided to use my experience of iron and steel sector and so along with my father's assistance i set up a properitership concern and i began making trips to an forth many places in rourkela, orissa and started dealing in semi finished/finished steel products.gradually we purchased a mfg unit and i totally involved myself in marketing the waste product of our mfg unit i.e iron ore fines to exporters based in kolkata..amidst all these i wrote the various b schoole entrances though i did not fare too well..tho i have been managing good turnovers the deam of doing an mba from a top notch college stays with me...i feel somehwere i am lacking and my organistaion is not being run in a manner in which it can compete with others in this dynamic scenario in the long run where one has to be on their toes and keep innovating...inspite of people telling me that mba makes you a jack of all trades, master of none i still feel mba can help me in acquiring entreprenuership skills which i can use to run my enterprise better...along with foreign trade and finance i am interested in real estate and thats why pursuing a diploma course in real estate as well...coz my long term goal is to start a real estate investment company,as i am not really enjoying steel n iron as it is too core based for my liking...

and thats the reason for me taking the CAT 2007....inspite of my brother telling me that a profile like mine can't make it to the top colleges i am still determined because i believe in my signature.......
Hey buddy,
u really rock,dude.....what u have written is heartfelt by most of us and i sincerely believe that u will make it to top mba colleges.keep on running..........

Cheers... :icon_arrowl:

Re: Why are you writing CAT? - 02-07-2008, 06:13 PM

i am still in 3rd year of my b.tech so i wont be writing cat-2007 but there is no thread for why cat-09 so i am posting here....
i think it still are early days for answering this question but i will give it a try...
REASONS:
  • being a computer science graduate from NIT Trichy guarantees a decent job, but i have heard enough about monotonousity of an IT job so MBA from an IIM wont hurt
  • i like doing maths and those small puzzles generally asked.
  • i think business senses are running in my genes since i belong to a family where everyone is doing a small or big business of his own.
this is my longest post till date and i hope i have made sense (whatever little:boat::boat

you see things; and say, "why?" but i dream things that never were; and i say, "why not?"
