Re: SPJIMR PGDBM 2007-2009 Experiences - 24-02-2007, 07:57 PM

I miserably failed... failed to convince them about my need..
The saga goes here..
I was scheduled for 3pm batch today i.e. 24feb at bangalore..
even though I was the first in the list of the 3pm batch ( around 50) I was the last to be interviewed..
A long waiting game of 3 hrs compared to others..
@harishvr9 - no compulsion of wearing a tie.. I myseld dint wear it.. there were a few to accompany me.. infact 3 of the 6 guys in my batch..
our GI had 7 ppl.. only one female..
one was a fresher and other had experience..
2 for FIn, 2 for MARketing , 2 for IM and 1 for systems.
our panel had 5 ppl.. baap re.. almost equaled the candidates..
2 seemed to be profs P1 and p2, 2 from industry I1 , I2( i guess) and 1 student S ( he was like a dead man not eve one single wrd uttered)

Prof : (jus to make us relaxed) where all u come from? how u traveled?
we all uttered
I1 : WHY AN mba? ( Everybody given sufficient time to speak out)
Me being the last ( worst posn to be.. Nobody wathces u neither u can see anybody.. So very qns at me)
Since I was the last to answer and I came from family business, they asked the other ppl that whether my reason was justified.. baap re.. luckily everybody agreed. i survived..
P2 : any mgmt books read recently? ( to everyone)
I2 : diff between efficiency and effectiveness ( a GD sort )
we jus couldn find a diff.. so was a bad discussion..
P1 : Mgmt is common sense.. why formal degree ( again a GD)
I1 : name business leaders who r the inspiration to u ?

will keep u psoted the next part very soon..
I am depressed.. sorry guys..

Signature B4:No smile till I reach that IIM mile
After : Hehe.. All Smiles in NITIE style

@yssunil, need not be depressed dude.
I guess ur grp interview was quite different from others.
It was very specific and had tough questions. So u guys would have been ranked accordingly.
Think about the stuff that went ur way and not the other way round.
There is no such interview in which the candidate doesn't feel that he could have done better. same case with u. all the best and cheer up!

The Interview was very fine...infact the kinda image I had about how difficult SPJAIN interviews cud be...nothing as such...
Was in panel1...pretty cool ppl thr...giving u ample amount of time to express urself...aking u feel comfy....v patient panel...coz som group members were giving wayward answers circumventing the actual questions...but they listened patiently...
The interview time given to me ws 11.30 am...n reporting 10.30am...but my interview began at 12.40pm...was abt 45-50mins long...7ppl in the group...

G1:Fresher..NIT Bhopal..gud acads but seemed v self occupied...ADVICE listen to others inputs carefully...coz one of the panelists was just noticing body language n ur attitude

G2: me..B.Tech IT fresher from GCET,UP Tech University

G3: Fresher..B.Com..Chandigarh..ws grilled a lot on Inflation regulatory measures by govt...

G4: Fresher..B.Tech biotechnology..JayPee..was grilled on why finance

G5: 4yrs experience with BSNL mobile...more ques on workex

G6: 32mnths workex with TCS..again ques on workex...n sop

G7: 21mnths workex with Adobe...ques on IT sector

G4,5,6 hd opted for fin,ops & mktg respectively n wer askd to convince each other why they think thr choice of specialisation is most imp in setting up an enterprise(al 3 wanted to do it)

I was askd about poetry writing(my hobby)..whys n hows of it...was askd to recite one also(BE PREPARED WID OFF THE LEAGUE HOBBIES)
Was also askd about why mktg...I wasnt grilled much n panel seemed to be convinced wid my ans...they nodded appreciatively...

I guess every1 had a relaxed time inside...ATB to those hu r yet to go thru it...

Re: SPJIMR PGDBM 2007-09 GD-PI Queries
hi friends

i had my interview today. experience is as follows.
there were two prof. and one sp student.
there was no introduction they started questioning with the SOP. so please just go through once what you have written in your SOP as i know somebody who forgot what he has written in his SOP.
then they described a situation that u have money and you have two options ,either to invest the money on the education of a girl child or some hungry people in the slums.
what to choose??

after that finance guys were asked why they chose finance??

then they asked about the Parzania and black friday(controversy) that the movies should be banned or not .
bas itna hi................
ATB to all who have their interview 2morrow.

Re: SPJIMR PGDBM 2007-2009 Experiences - 25-02-2007, 10:45 AM

arpit105 's experience-->

Ok. So here is how my interview went:

Time: 12:55 pm; Place: BVB, Bangalore; Date: 24th Feb 07; Panel # 1

Four panelists(4): (They introduced themselves - I forgot most names )
- Joint Director of SP, (JD)
- VP-HR of Covansys, (VP)
- Faculty member of IM, (IM)
- PGDBM I year student - Shreyas Malhotra (SM)

Overall time duration: 35-40 min.

Six of us (1-6; I was 3) sat on pre-determined seats:
#1 - TCS, 18 months, IM
#2 - Cognizant, 7 months, Finance
#3 - Ittiam Systems, 18 months, Marketing
#4 - TCS, 18 months, Finance
#5 - 18 months, IM
#6 - 18 months, Mktg

JD: So, we are here to know you a litte better. I would like each of you to introduce yourself in about 1 min telling about your background, what your parents do, your educational background, your interests and end with a USP of yours.

JD: So, does any one know what a USP is? What about you, #2?

2: Er...
1: Er...
3: Utmost Selling point. (Oops! )
4: Unique Selling Point.

JD: Ok, So #1, please start with an introduction of yourself.

(1-6: ....)

JD: Right, let us have a discussion. But, let me warn you that, for the sake of our health this is not going to be an GD. [Then he gave a brief introduction of the topic that can be summarised as "Misuse of technology - Restrictions: What and what not"]

(1-6: Spoke in random order probably based on the kind of interest we were showing towards the previous speaker. JD moderated the discussion.)

[Thereafter, they asked one question to each of us based on our intro and on the Questionnaire form and details provided in Admission form. Here are the questions asked]

JD: So #6, you say you are a guitar player. What are the 6 strings of a guitar called?
VP: What are the strings of a 4 string guitar called?

SM: #2, you have worked for 7 months in Congnizant but you have mentioned that you have learnt a lot of processes. Typically it takes 2-3 years to learn the processes completely. What all did you learn?

JD: #2, what is so unique about Cognizant?
SM: #2, I have myself worked with Cognizant for 11 months and I do not think that they offer any kind of flexibility. How do you justify what you just said?

VP: #1, you said you have learnt Reiki. What are the three levels in Reiki?

VP: #5, you said you have been trekking a lot. Can you name a few places where you have been to? Which was the best trek you had?

JD: #4, you said got hooked onto Finance while doing a Finance based project at TCS. What all did they teach you there to inspire you so much?

SM: #3, I have a question for you. Don't you think your knowledge of engineering would become irrelevant after an MBA in marketing?

JD: Ok, thanks a lot to all of you for coming. We are ready to take questions if you have some.

#1: Sir, can you please explain the process of DOCC and what all do participants do?

#3: How is ADMAP different from other institutes' system of library, mess and placement committees?

Hope this helps!

akil_turbo's experience -->
Hi fellow puys....
I had my GI at bangalore yesterday....Pretty nice GI....the batch consisted of 1 iitian(not me) and 6 ppl with IT work-ex and me(fresher engineer)....we hAD a nice GI with the first question being tell me somehting about urself....we all answered...a few sounded like real prep answers though all of them were...the prof took a potshot at the guy who gave out a essay kinda answer for the question...
From there onwards,i was almost ignored fer the next 10 minutes....it was like i almost dont exist....till one of the profs noticed wat was happening...the nice lady diverted the topic to movies and we had a healthy discussion on the same...then moved on to books....pretty chill discussion overall....then bang came the question only to me....
"akil...dont you think getting some work-ex before a mba will help a lot.....why do you want to do it right now...?"
i went blah..blah....and ended up answering pretty well...The profs were trying to make us feel at home....one lady prof...one wizened man of 60...one prof of around 30 and one student made up the panel.

My questions to the seniors
1.the most obvious....When will the call fer the next round be out?
2.Am i at a gross disadvantage being a fresher coz a mojority of ppl with calls had work-ex.
3.Will the next round have any major changes? __________________
