Chennai Business School (CBS) - 15-02-2007, 06:52 PM

Hi Pagalguys,

I am Jyotsna, doing PGDM (retail) at CBS. I have created this thread to answer all queries related to admissions for 2007-2008 batch. We offer one-year Post graduate programs under 7 verticals : HR, Marcom, Retail, Marketing, IT, ITES and Telecom. The admissions are open. GD/PIs will be conducted from the first week of April. For people staying in Chennai, i suggest you visit our campus on Velachery-Taramani road (opposite TCS building) so that you can interact with some students and get a better understanding about CBS.

Thanks and regards,
Jyotsna

Re: Chennai Business School (CBS) - 19-02-2007, 10:54 PM

Hi Binya,

The course at CBS is structured into 2 modules:
Module 1 deals with general management subjects like finance, economics, operations magmt, quants, marketing, IT, organization behavior etc.
In Module 2 , the chosen specialization (i.e, one of the 7 verticals) will be covered in detail. This focuses more on practical learning.

Before i joined CBS, i too was worried that the programme would be tedious. But actually it isn't. The course has been crafted in such a way that only the essential things required to be applied in the workplace are covered in the syllabus. I do agree that we won't get long holidays. But that i guess is the price we have to pay for saving a year

Good luck,
Jyotsna

Hi
I have some queries regarding CBS :

1. What is the total intake of the students?
2. How is the placement scene looking like, Since this is a one year course , the first batch guyz should be already in the process of getting placed? juts give us an idea about the highest and lowest , avg that u guyz are expecting?

3. what all companies have or are planning to come down to CBS for Placements?

4. Wht kind of profile have been or are expected to be offered to the first batch guyz?

5. Website also says that Relaince made some early offers , can u give some detail abt em?

6. how is the campus, there are no pics abt the facilities or for that matter about hostel? Could u please give details abt the same?

7. please giv an account of your journey so far at CBS, in terms of faculty , guest lectures, course structure etc.

thanks a bunch

@ Adaha

1. For the next batch the intake is 40 students per vertical.

2. We have an MOU with pantaloon and 30 students were placed with them on the 1st day of the programme itself. But our actual placement season will start by mid-march and go on till april. We are not quite sure abt the avg salary. But we expect it to be between 4-5.5 lacs/annum. People with exp will ofcourse get more.

3. Companies who have expressed interest are Ashok Leyland, Bharti, Cerebrus Consultants, Hutch, J Walter Thompson, Mindtree Consulting, Ogilvy & Mather, Office Tiger, Reliance Retail, RPG group, Satyam Infoway, TAJ Hotels etc.

4. The profile offered will depend on the work experience of the student and the vacancy available in the company. Will give a better picture by next month.

5. Mr.Raghu Pillai, CEO, Reliance Retail came to CBS for a guest lecture. He said that Reliance would be coming for placements. Will let you know the details soon.

6. The campus infrastructure is self-sufficient with all the facilities required by a B-school. Classrooms are airconditioned, with wi-fi connectivity. We also have a cafeteria, library and an auditorium. The pictures will be uploaded in the website soon.
CBS will be moving to a residential campus in a couple of years. As of now the college arranges for a fully furnished apartment close to the campus for students.

7. In my opinion, CBS is acting like a springboard for my career. The course is quite enriching, thanks to the students who come from diverse backgrounds, the faculty who have more than 30 years of experience in the industry and academia and the guest lectures by top brass people organized once in 10 days. Most of the profs are IIM graduates and have taught in reputed B-schools like XLRI, IIM, BIM, LIBA, IFMR, Great lakes etc.

Thus, so far we are enjoying the course at CBS. Will keep updating u about the placement season.

Regards,
Jyotsna
