A few additions:

1. Barring 1 or 2 companies here and there ..like Johnson Electric in IIMC
IIML marketing placements and summers are as good as ABC. We have the same marketing foreign placements like ABC viz Alshaya, P&G, Astro et al.
And same Indian markting placements (profiles included) in HLL, ITC, MArico, P&G India, Col-Pal.

2. Marketing is a serious specialization here. So there is no hierachy like all toppers should go for finance and the remaining breadcrumbs go for marketing.
Infact the girl who won gold medal [04-06 batch] was marketing focussed

Arre! How are these bad acads? Ok i mean they arent topper material, but you should be able to justify them - as in, either explain that first year performance was low, but then it picked up in later years, or something like that, depending on your annual performance. L will ask you a year wise breakup of your graduation marks in the form to be brought to the GDPI. So think up a good story, without sounding too apologetic, because they arent that bad, really.

Most important, as had been mentioned, you cant change acads, you can best talk abt them a bit. What you can change is more relevant. Prepare well for GDPI. Especially your personals. Stuff like about you, hobbies, interests, strengths, and have multiple examples ready to support what you say. And then there is stuff like current affairs, and your own graduation areas. As an engineer, be prepared to alk about your final project.

Even after all this, your GDPI may be about something entirely different- say the Category III ILS training of pilots of Indian airline service providers, or the lack thereof.... All they want to see is that you have a some knowlegde, a lot of logic, and a pleasant demeanor. So be cool, confident, and smile. Pause before you answer. ask for time to think if you need it.

And do NOT bullsh*t. These are IIM profs.

Hello!
Thanks for starting the discussion.
I personally have calls from B, C, L and I.

All of us here will be really very happy if u seniors from "Nawabi" IIM can guide us as to how we shud start preparing..
Is there any specific quality that L looks for in the aspirants?
Or what are the topics which should be prepared for the GD/PIs?
What kind of cases or topics are given for discussion?
Do they ask technical questions? Here technical means.. questions from my academics (i am an engineer)

Waiting for your reply!

Regards,

Partha

@bohemian

1. Kindly go thru the .doc file that I have uploaded in this thread before. Also plz go thru the GD-PI exp. of last year [link again in .doc file]. There were no cases last year but only vague GD topics
Mine was Brain is the most beautiful organ

2. L does not look for anything special. A good aptitude, smiling face, good communication skills, stress-handling ability and general awareness should get you thru!

3. Regarding tech questions, yes they do ask about Fourier transforms n what not!
Do prepare the concepts of all your Engg subjects espl in those subjects where your grades are low
Do prepare your final year project too

Re: IIM Lucknow [2007-09] GD/PI Help Desk - 07-01-2007, 12:14 AM

Thanks a lot for this thread.

My profile:

VA - 98.74
DI- 93.93
QA - 98.69
Total - 99.41

10th - 88.5
12th - 94.7
Engg - 7.69/10.00 (IIT Bombay)

Work-ex : 4 months (as of Dec 2006)

I've come to know that as far as placements are concerned, work ex of < 1yr is as good as none at all. Though it is a S/W job, the company I'm presently working in is a startup and the experience has been good so far. So I'd like to work for another year before going for an MBA. But most people have suggested otherwise. Kindly help.

Also, please do shed some light on the consulting companies that come to campus.
