I will be writing my CAT this year. I've worked as a CSE with a major AMC and as a Business co ordinator with a UK based MN bank. Now I'm working as a research associate.

What are my chances of getting into TAPMI? What should be my score in CAT 2008 / GMAT this year to get a call?

hi all,
i have Taken GMAT in Aug 2008 and had scored a 650 with a toefl score of 106. i m not considering taking GMAT again and wanted to apply with this score. My work ex is 30 months in IT and am a BE IT graduate. But due to the current financial crises in US and some crisis at my end too i have to scrapped or atleast delayed my mba plans for some years . so in the mean time i was considering an indian MBA but at the same time i dint wanted to study for any more exams. so i searched for indian schools Accepting GMAT score and found Only TAPMI and SPJAIN suitable for the course type i wish to attend. out of which i guess SP jain is not within my Reach as on thier website they have mentioned a minimum of 680 as thier criteria, so i guess i m left with only TAPMI,
so guys please help me in deciding on an Indian MBA. should i go for it?
and do i stand a chance for TAPMI with my profile as discussed above?
and which other GOOD B-schools in india Accepts GMAT score ?
i know ISB and IIMs also Accept GMAT score but i guess i am waybelow their cutoff and also I would not like to do a 1 year MBA as GLM would offer .

I am planning to attend CAT for the 1st time in NOV 09. Now I am a Software engineer with work experience of 36 months. My current pay is around 7.5 lakhs per annum.
I am working with a very prestigious European investment bank for last 7 months (amongst top 3 in Europe). I am completely bored with IT job. So now seriously want to change my job profile and want to do MBA by this year itself. I am looking for a more functional role (BA/Senior BA), am really pissed with ma present role.

Following is my profile.
Academic Profile:

10th - 70%
12th - 58%
B.E(IT) - 65% (from non IIT / NIT , but amongst top 5 colleges in state)

Got many prizes in my previous job. Certificates in technical competencies (oracle,microsoft).

Work Profile:
1st company - 12 months (start up company)
2nd company - 17 months (Cambridge Solutions)
3rd company - 7 months (amongst top 3 investment banks in europe , overall 15 globally)

Extra Curricular:
Swimming , Cricket , I create web portals free lance.


Started my Cat prep by April. I am strong in VA. So working hard in Quants and DI , hope to be in commando mode come this November.

But since I can attempt only this year due to personal reasons plz let me know if TAPMI would be suitable and what is the placement scope at TAPMI, a decent package (around 15 lakhs pa + bonus / variable, I guess if I continue with my job I would be earning around 10 lakhs pa. in the 2 years).

What is the CAT percentile required to get a call from TAPMI. Would my profile be suitable? I would be applying for TAPMI , so when do we get forms ?

Just want to be sure so that I won’t regret my decision after 2 years.

I dont think you will regret your decision once you join TAPMI and already when you are earning 7.5, you bound to get better package once u complete ur MBA. Till last year we had max salary being offered in the same range which u r expecting so be assured on that front..

And MBA is much more than placements, kind of education, exposure, opportunity one get here in TAPMI is defintely gonna help in long term......

Mostly TAPMI will accept CAT and GMAT score for Admissions (still check noticification next month). So what has changed?? Due to online mode pattern, cutoffs, selection criteria will change to some extent.

Firstly congratulations on an impressive work profile.
Coming to your query, the CAT cut-off for GD-PI calls for our batch last year was 92 percentile. It is expected to go up this year. Also the induction of the world-class new campus of TAPMI would be one of the major highlights.

According to me, your profile should not pose a hindrance. The forms would be coming out after the CAT forms and it would be duly notified via the major national newspapers. Though I would personally advise that you keep a check on PG forums and the TAPMI website for any updates. Till last year the forms were available online as well as through a number of branches of coaching institutes like IMS etc.

Placements have never been an issue at TAPMI and your fears would be put to rest once the institute releases the official placement figures for the last season.
As far as making the right choice is concerned, I can assure you that TAPMI is ranked amongst the best-of-the-best in the country as far as academic rigour and quality of education is concerned. We have some of the best management faculty available in the country and this coupled with a legendary pedagogy and academic structure results in a b-school which is counted amongst the best. Adding to the value is the new campus with its world-class infrastructure. There is so much about TAPMI which cannot be put in mere words.
