@Aaradhya and The Raven,

Thanx a ton guys!

I have more questions. I am interested in moving to Technolgy Consulting after my MBA.
To be specific, I want to move to ERP Consuting. Does an MBA from IIM C help me achieve this? I think my work ex in Software sales makes sense for this career goal.

Reg,
Surya

hey....got a call for GD/PI from IIMC...i heard tht IIMC generally prefers students from the engineering stream....just wanted to know if this is true???...i am in my final year at IIT and acads r pretty decent...also does the CAT score count for anything in ur final selection other than for getting calls...my scores are

VA-94.3%
DI-99.4%
QA-99.91%

overall-99.91%

missed out on A due to VA and also didnt get from B for some reason...C is my last hope...and how much does work ex actually count for in the final selection??

TIA

First of all thats a great split. Good show. Now for some myth busting

IIMC prefers engineers.

True IIMC prefers engineers but so does every other Bschool in India! If your assumption is that IIMC specifically has a preference towards engineers then you are not correct. We have 87% engineers in the current PGP1 batch (2006-0 In comparison A has 91-92% and B has 89 odd percent if my memory serves me right.

It may not mean much of a difference but just goes to show that IIMC is not only about the engineers, atleast not as much as it is believed to be. We have a couple of doctors, a CA, a bunch of Commerce and Science Grads to bring joy to the party in our batch.

Now after this stage the only thing that is in your control is your performance in GD/PI. No one really knows the exact weightages for CAT score or acads or workex, so any comments from my side would fall in the realm of speculation. Traditionally IIMC doesnt give too much weightage to past acads. (There is an interview by the Dean admissions somewhere in the PG archives if you are interested). Your GD/PI do matter a lot and it is highly important at C interviews to have a very clear idea of what you want to do in life and more importantly why you want to do them. And dont worry too much about "last hope" and only shot. You can attend only one bschool and I think you have given yourself an excellent shot at a great school. So go easy on yourself and start working on phase 2.

Reg,

You definitely can move into Tech consulting from IIM C. We have Accenture, IBM and PwC recruiting, among others, specifically for Technology Consulting, as well as strategy and financial consulting. In addtioin hardcore techies can look to move back to IT with companies like bloomberg. Your Work ex on the resume will definitely be an added advantage for you.

All the best for the process ahead!
As we say in IIM C, putcrack!

A few links to get you started

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/b-scho...life-iimc.html
I havent updated it in a while but definitely gives you a fair idea of what Life@IIMC is all about. It was started by the previous batch and I jump in at around page 3 I guess. Lots of informative links on IIMC, Finance et all. Spend time on this thread. I may conduct a quiz

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/b-scho...rs-2007-a.html
Placements! Apart from givin you a glimpse of how placements work at C and a good look at finance as a career, it also has a great inter-IIM discussion on profiles for Ibanking, gender discrimination and the likes.

IIM Calcutta Photography Club's photosets on Flickr

The IIM Calcutta Photo Blog. Watch!

I'll keep posting links as and when relevant, the last one year has had lotsa high poins from Indra Nooyi to placements, I guess we will take it one step at a time for now.

Hehe... You have a long way to go for that. But its a silent induction into the analytical rigor that IIMC puts you through. Don't worry when the time comes you will know all the right answers. Hum hain na
