Not so good Academic Profile - 15-12-2006, 02:09 AM

Dear Puys,
I am not confident about my academic profile and this sometimes puts me in a troublesome position. I am sure that my poor academic performance at degree level would be a point of talk in my PI. I need some views/suggestions so that I would be able to get out of any weird situation.
My profile is as follows:
10th = 91%
12th = 70%
NTSE Scholar, Top 1% in Indian National Physics Olympaid
IIT Delhi Graduate
So far so good.
But my troubles begin from the first examination at IIT.
1st year - CGPA - 5.5/10 + 5.0/10 with D's in Maths,Physics and Cs in other. Total 5.25/10
2nd Year - CGPA - 6.0/10
3rd Year - CGPA - 6.2/10 with one F and a few Ds
4th Year - Final CGPA - 6.5/10 with a D

I have an average record in extracurricular activities.

I am expecting a percentile of around 99.6% with a decent break of 98.xx in all three.

No chance dude...very slim if any...

These days IIMs are looking for profiles which are exact opposite to yours...

The problem is that none of this will help when they will ask - Why did you perform so badly in your graduation.

I know my overall profile is good but this is a big blot.

Ok...Herez the solution...

Just give them crap about u being a stud in extra-curriculars ....No not the dope n booze ....Say stuff like you were the Mess secretary, Cult Fest Organizer, B-Plan Contest participant, Inter-IIT sports...blah ..blah...blooh
But make sure you do have some supporting statements/proofs for all this stuff...

Btw..Do tell us why u think ur GPA was low?? And why was it so 'low'?? It'll help.

hehe, stud in extra-curri? with no cerits to show [:(] I have already mentioned that I had an avera record in extra-curriculars

There are multiple reasons for low CGPA - Got addicted to games , had put in a lot of effort in JEE and lost the will to study for four years. Actually, after the extremely poor 1st year my confidence was abysnally low and just couldn't recover academicwise.

hmm...your profile surely isn't as bad as to demand a separate thread.
You can use search function to find the thread dedicated to GD/PI doubts.

Of course, academic performance will be a point of talk ; but I am sure that you can be honest and state real reasons why your academic performance dipped. It shouldn't be that difficult a task for you, or for anybody having low acads.

Ahh...Come on dude..You just need some confidence...U can crack it....Just make sure u focus on your other +ves during the GD/PI...Thats it!

Still...U didnt answer my qn "Why do u think 6.5 CGPA is bad??" I'd say it is good enough..Good enough to see you through the MBA program u gonna take...make sure you put this point across the table firmly during the PI...

No more gyaan dude!!

Locked! ...Mod You are Welcome!

Re: Not so good Academic Profile - 15-12-2006, 02:45 AM

Thanx for the confidence boost.
6.5 isnt that bad . but my gradesheet starts with a series of Ds! Its only after around 10 courses that a respectable grade can be seen.

I had posted the thread just to get some gyan from those who have been through this scenario. If mods think this wont help others like me, please go ahead and lock the thread

ok...
first of all congrats for having an exemplary performance throughout your career..
dude u r an IITian (if I am not mistaken) which itself has some sort of an advantage..
then a decent split
plus some decent shows prior to ur 1st yr which show that u are capable of HUGE thingees... SO I don think u have much to worry about..
Instead start workin on GD/PI stuff than thinking about all this rite now..

but if you really have those many doubts regarding your abilities (lol.. u shudn't have them dude).. you can go through these threads where similar discussions have taken place!!!

Low Acads , how handicapped am i ?

academics....

or pm Prof Calculus.. he's really a wizard at these kind of things..
please don't go and create a new thread especially for a personal doubt!!
welcome to the world of PG!!
