Hi I'm new to PG and I couldn't find any thread that caters to students who want to crack the CAT without any coaching. I don't know if this is the right place to start this thread. So if it isn't pls inform me.

I know there are very few who are not taking any coaching but still aiming for the best, but I feel this minority must have its voice heard.

So this is a place where we can discuss how it takes an extra hard, but worthwhile, effort to crack CAT without coaching centres.

Share strategies, suggestions and just anything that might help.

Even without coaching, there are many who make it. Coaching institutes can help you only in 2 things - planned study and a sense of competition when you see fellow students in the coaching batch toiling hard to make it.

If you can do these things yourself, you are equally good without any coaching.

PS: Get home with PG and you shall find hell lot of stuff over here which can guide you throughout the preparation and we have some of the best brains appearing for CAT over here at PG if you look around.

Man,all i can say you is this ---Just find out your strength and weakness and then go to think that do u need institute for CAT prep or not ?. ...

Coz,your decision,would be the final decision to pursue with,isnt that?.....

Ya I know that some of the best brains preparing for CAT is in PG. I've had references from various people.

I agree that coaching centre instills a sense of competition among students. But I think people who are determined and focussed hardly need any external prodding.

I am not against coaching centres or something like that. Neither am I saying that I have in me the aforementioned qualities. But this is something I believe in.

There are people who made it to IIMS without Coaching
There are people who made it to IIMS with Coaching
There are people who never made it to IIMS with STUDYING!!

It's attitude dude!!
What ever you do, it all end up with you and your hard work!!
You might join the best coaching, you might be mentored by gurus, but if you do not work for it, well, you can sit and admire the institute and Gurus!!

well call it EGO or watever... I have always eschewed going to coaching institutes & hence didnt join 1... well my case is different as i m different... hahhaa so is everyone....

yes i agree with all of u .... institutes do instill confidence n competition... but wat i feel sometimes too much competition

too... it helps only a handful how have got there basics right and hover over and above ur performance....

so if u dont think u r improving competition wise (performance wise) u sud take a break n get started with the basics... and I believe thats wer n wat will help u improve.... and dont urself BENCHMARK with those who r better than u... it will ruin u one day (If u r not improving even after much work)

well thats my point....

And i think working on ur basics is one thing wer a coaching institute cant help.... its U n ONLY U.... who has to work...

Well my experience is go for coaching once. There are many stategies which might never strike you. More over even if you ask your friend who have enrolled themself for tips, they might miss out soem really cool one!! What is importnt to you may not be imp for others!!
My advice, is may be you can go and get mentored once. If you dont make it, you know the strategy, you can built upon it.!

Again it's not a msut that you have to join a coaching center. If your basics are really stong, then it's all about practice, which you can do it from home!!
So its again ATTITUDE!!
