Hi,

Your 12th marks are very low. So you will have to justify that.

With your percentiles, I think you should get anywhere above 90%ile if you step up the hardwork. You may consider applying to IMT-N, SIMSR, NIRMA, TAPMI, IISWBM, Welingkar, LIBA etc.

Keep schools like Amrita, Bimtech, SDM-IMD as backup.

You have a chance of getting into IMI- IMT-G, if you work really hard and get >96%ile.

SPJIMR gives a profile based call. So, if you can justify your 12th marks and have a good profile otherwise, you may apply at SPJIMR too. The min percentile requirement is 85%ile.

Take the SNAP and NMAT and apply to colleges and courses there. They are good.

In all of the above, just check the eligibility criteria once. Some schools like IFMR has a 60% throughout criterion.

Xiith-59.00%
U.G.(Bio Tech)-76%
He has been scoring between 40%ile - 50%ile...
He is an OBC.





And now back to me, what i want to know is that i have been scoring consistantly 95%ile+ in the Eng section , but always end up with abysmally low marks in DI and Quant(specially Quant).So will this affect my propects????
And one more thing can u suggest ways 2 improve my score in Quants??

u can focus on ur areas of strength in quant like algebra or geometry n focus on that n aimon selecting the right questions in quant ...with this u can easily score good percentile in quant plus ur english scores should push ur overall percentile up

Coming back to your query, my state was similar to yours last year. DI and QA were the weak links. With so little time left, I think you should concentrate more on your strength areas ie VA and try improve one of the other sections from QA n DI. If you manage to get >90 in 2 sections and a decent percentile in the third, you will get a good overall percentile.

About your friend. Is he a fresher? Since he is an OBC, if he can improve on the percentile front, he may get into any of the govt institutes like IIMs etc.

dear friends,

please help me to select a few colleges to apply. my budget is around 15000 rupees. i have written almost all aimcats (t.i.m.e) and im not getting a regular score. once its 75 then next week its 35 then 65. only once i reached around 87 percentile. and the first mock cat which was a little easy i scored 90.

my acads are also weak.
10th std 70%
12th 65%
btech 55%
work experience in a small company in my town. (nothing much but more than one year exp with low salary)

i had also written sept mat and got 90 percentile.
please help me in making the right decision. i have applied for cat mat (i hear dec mat is more imp so will write again) xat snap and ibsat also. please tell me a few colleges under all exams if possible. i hope a budget of 15000 (10-12 colleges) is sufficient. i dont think i can stretch any further as i have already spend a lot on examinations already. ibsat doesnt require seperate applications so i can leave that aside.

As u said you acads are weak and your scores are also not showing good trends. My advise would be to improve your performance in last few mocks till first week of nov, if the condition remains same, i would say fill less number of forms in CAT and concetrate on SNAP as you will get extra month to prepare. The percentiles you are getting are low but if you can do well on the D-day and scores your best then fill forms like Wellingkar, IFMR, FMS(BHU),BIMTECH,ITM in CAT and SITM,SIOM and SIIB in SNAP, in XAT also there is a list of 40 odd institutes. So if you are expecting low score say below 90 in XAT fill forms like XIME, Amrita,LIBA and BIM..as per my memory they give call around 90 percentile. If you not very desparate to do MBA this year itself, try next year with better prep.

thank you for the quick reply. i have noted down the colleges you mentioned. i am a little embarassed to also point out that i had completed my engg last year and i havent prepared anything for the CAT. i feel depressed thinking of the time that i have wasted. i could have held on to 90+ range if i had studied atleast the last 3-4 months. anyway now i cant repeat again. im already under huge pressure.

as u recommend i will apply to CAT institutes after writing a few more aimcats (few more now means exactly 3 more!). maybe if i try real hard in the next couple of days i can get to a "constant" level. the problem is i dont have a fixed strategy. i will come back after the 26th oct aimcat results are out. hoping you will be here.

also should i apply to any college under mat to be safe so that i dont end up with nothing. if yes can you tell me two colleges that i can apply seeing that i already scored 90%ile last time. amrita which u mentioned takes cat scores. LIBA (u mean loyola chennai?) requires 60% throughout incl engg which i dont have. so tell me any other college. or you can tell me after 26th oct as you wish.

i m giving PT PRACAT's geting around 90%ile ....If i manage to get 95+%ile in CAT,XAT,SNAP,.which colleges should i apply(keeping in mind Bad grad.) ....and which colleges should keep for Backup...

is it gud idea to appear for IBSAT for Backup ........

Dude this is not the time to get depressed, what is done is done u can,t revist past and change. This point of time your whole energy should be focussed on cracking CAT and giving your best. About consistency in mocks my consistency was pathetic in mocks while i was preparing for CAT but i believed in my abilities and always did well in CAT but yeah not good enough to reach 98+. Neways regarding strategy , i would say concetrate on 2 of your stronger sections and maximize your total score, don't worry much about sectionals. There are many colleges in CAT which looks at overall score so do best in 2 and moderate in one. In MAT Alliance and Christ Banglore are good institutes but they too have high cut off's. So perform well in MAT and score 98+ if you want to get into these institutes. Keep posting your genuine doubts here, every puy here is ready to help.
