Caught you! Just earlier pranav mentioned that data/info about induvidual colleges can be obtained from the specific Bschool Seniors!
Pehla bakra mil gaya
So, i repeat my questions:
how does the college fare in actually teaching management?
Apart from the info provided on the site, how do i actually determine that? How good is the exposure to outside faculty as well as outside industries?
(unfortunately the only means of "evaluating" a college is thru relativ-ity )
So how good does IMI fare as compared to other A grade Bschools? How much improvement is it undergoing to become a A+ Bschool?
Does it have any exchange programs with international colleges/indian colleges?
P.S. I'm not talking about salaries. Unfortunately that's the only thing talked about generally... i'll consider it last...
Hopefully i might get the answers

Wondering which Bskools to apply -
31-08-2006, 09:35 PM
hi all
i m appearing in CAT 06 and i m sure to 95 %le or in say 95plus minus 2 %le.
i have good comm. skills and good confidence level.
but my acads. are very bad.
my coll. aint a famous one rather a new one and we are the first batch.
now i m confused that where i should apply.
cos i dont think that any bskool will accept a low acads. guy.
so plz advice me about some bskools that dont consider acads. rather cat score, attitude, personality and other skills like GD skills.
thax a lot to every one who will reply
p.s. arre PRANAV bhaiya
my coll. is in front of IIM INDORE
kabhi note kiya.
if not that implies how poor coll. it is.
now i dont think so that any b-skool will take a guy from bad coll.
plz reply
thx

Hey Chakrabir,
I can understand how you feel.. first of all good Job with the high %iles and the high confidence. I think you possess two of the biggest assets any MBA aspirant would crave for.
Also I personally feel that the first part of the battle is to get the calls and then you can work on how to present your profile to the panel that is evaluating you.
For now when u choose the collges to apply to go for a couple of lower ranked (SCMHRD, SIBM, NMIMS) in order to allow you a backup incase you feel that your profile wont see you through.
PS: I am not sure I know which college you are in but I dont know much of Indore anyways.. However PM me if u wanna come and meet me or see our campus (its beautiful)

buddy
Regarding the info on exchange programmes please click here (IMI,Delhi ::Admissions 2007)
It is nice to see that you are not the stereotyped aspirant who may just go behind the salaries.
Well IMI banks on its faculty and corporate patronage. With big names like RPG grp ,ITC,Nestle,Tata etc. it has carved a postion for itself in the industry.
Well IMI is increasing its faculty base, coming out with more research programmes and also stepping into training of Defence personnel,so as to get into the top slot which includes the six IIMs too.
We have as of today few of the best faculty round the globe and believe me interacting with them is a value addition. It is for this value addition that we have students who have left b-schools like NMIMS,IMT-G,IIFT-K,IRMA,IITs etc for IMI.
So it has started being evident that IMI has come a long long way to the list of first rung b-schools.
Till the time your batch may pass out ,you may find IMI at a much better position across the b-schools in India.
Bye,
God Bless.

Hello Pranav and priyanshu Sir!
thanks to u for opening this thread and pouring in u'r valuable views..u'r ideas will go a long way in helping the uninitiated ones like me.
Here's my profile in brief.
10th- 81% (state board)
12th- 93% "
Btech - 84% NIT Nagpur (Gold Medalist)
Mtech - 9.1 cgpa IIT Kgp (completed only 1st yr thou..hav received an extension frm the institute for 5 yrs)
Work ex- 2.5 yrs....1 yr in L&T and remaining in NTPC ltd
So- so extra currics in school days and almost none in college days.
Now i'm planning to apply only for IIMs and not goin for any other insti at all. Is that a wise decision?
Also i'm consistently scoring around 96 percentile in AIMCATS but am unable to cross that figure irrespective of the difficulty level..Does that mean i cant score 99+ in CAT ?
Please bestow me with u'r opinions and suggestions
Cheers
Rohit

Hi guyz,
Very useful thread.. kudos to the guy who started it.
i'll be appearing for CAT 2006 with abt 4 yrs of work ex. i'm specifically interested in a course on "Operations & Manufacturing". Can any one tell me whether, apart from the IIMs, NITIE, SPJ, MDI, XLRI lot, amon the schools in the next rung, are there any in particular where the Operations course is notably good?

Hi Rohit,
Just try and experiment with a different strategy in the Mocks and u should be able to cross the 96%ile mark. As 4 u scoring above 99%ile or not would be v.difficult for anyone to answer as it's all about what you do on the day.
Anyways, Best of Luck!

Japjit

Well considering your profile, only the topmost colleges can give you some value addition.. so its a good enuf decision to concentrate mainly on iims. However, to give yourself some more exposure and security, you may try some other top notch colleges like FMS and XLRI. Applying is no harm, you can always make a decision later on...
But, focus mainly on cat as of now, try some other mocats as well to give urself further exposure especially as most of the test series tend to get stereotyped.. 95-96 in aimcats is good enuf.. remember, 95-96 is among 20,000 students whereas in cat there are 1.75 lakh, many of whom are not so serious.. so percentiles will certainly increase if you can maintain the same level of performance..But remember, it only depends on the d-day where maintaining calm is utmost important. Try not to let any complacency set in.. u may also like to try some different strategies.
