Which colleges do you think I should apply to?
Buddy with the kind of score you have got , i am sure that you will get some where around 97% and so get going and start your GD/PI preparation. Your experience of 3 years is very good and will surely help you at interview stage. Keeping your work ex in mind i would suggest you to fill up SPJAIN,GLAKES,IMT,IMI,NIRMA,TAPMI. The last three institutes have good no of people with work ex and thus recruiters perception is changing about these colleges thus more lateral profiles on offer. I would suggest that make your decision wisely considering all factors and opportunity cost involved.

I think u shud get a good score. Do apply to colleges which have a profile based selection like SPJIMR and Great Lakes as your work-ex will come handy. Other than that, I think you should get around 93-95%ile. So you can apply to colleges like SIMSR, Tapmi, Nirma and all the other >90%ile schools.

Do sit for XAT too.

: See how Mansham's and my views differ on the issue of percentiles. The same is the situation across all coaching institutes regarding percentiles and answer keys. No one knows for sure. So take you decision prudently. Don't believe coaching institutes blindly!!

My guess is that you shud get around 93-95%ile.

SPJIMR gives calls based on your profile + test scores. The min test score that you need to have for admissions is 85%ile. Your profile looks good. So go ahead and apply.

Also apply to institutes like IMT, IMI, Tapmi, Nirma, Somaiya etc

Hi Guys,
Although I am giving you slight disappointment, but the last date of filling of IMI forms is already over. So if you haven't filled the form, better luck next time!!!!

You have very good chance of getting more than one IIM call and others are then obviously in your range. So chill and prepare for other examz and start preparing for interview stage.

Re: Wondering which Bskools to apply visit this thread!!! - 17-11-2008, 03:50 AM

My 2 cents:

Firstly, following were the actual scores and corresponding percentiles last year(approximately):

QA:
27 92.xx %ile
32 95.xx %ile

DI:
48 95.xx %ile
43 92.xx %ile

VA:
28 95.xx %ile
25 92.xx %ile

Overall:
104 98%ile
115 99%ile

Had a look at this years paper and following were my observations:

QA:Easier than last year.DS this year was tougher though.More no. of doable questions compared to last year.Consequently cut-offs will definitely go up.The question being by how much?

DI:More or less of the same difficulty level as last year(Maybe a shade tougher).Cut-offs should not vary much.

QA:Surprise surprise!!!40 qs instead of 25 but thankfully the level of questions and the ambiguity in answers was much lower compared to 2007.People with good verbal skills are bound to gain here.Cut-offs will definitely be high.

Although there were more questions this year the time allocation should have been more or less on the same lines as last year.
Something like say 45-45-60 or 45-50-55 minutes for QA-DI-VA would have been the ideal strategy.
Hence i am assuming that time allocated for DI and QA will be more or less same as last year.

My Take on this years cut-offs:

QA:
38 95%ile
33 92%ile

DI:
47 95%ile
42 92%ile

VA:
48 95%ile
43 92%ile

Generally 95%ile in each section gives one an overall percentile in the range of 98.
Hence 98%ile this year should be somewhere around 127-130.

OA:
128 98%ile
138 99%ile

Additionally,

Following were the cutoffs(percentiles) last year for various CAT based colleges...

IIMA 99.3 overall (sectionals marginally higher than IIMC)

IIMB profile based( Least being somewhere around 95)

IIMC 98.96 overall (sectionals around 95 each)

IIML profile based(least being somewhere around 97)

IIMK 98 overall with 92 sectionals

IIMI 98 overall with sectionals 80 called top 1500 odd students satisfying
this criteria

IIMS 80% marks in graduation(not sure about the CAT percentile though
people with around 96.5 have made it)

NITIE 98.2 overall with sectionals 80

MDI PGPM 97 overall with 80 sectionals

SPJAIN Profile based...although everyone needs to score at least 85 percentile in CAT

IMI (PGDM) 96 overall sectionals 50

IMT-G 96 overall

With the competition getting tougher with every passing day,I dont see the cut-offs coming down at least if not going up.

My advice to aspirants:
* People who have done well keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best and those who haven't, don't worry there are still many other exams to go.Keep fighting!!! the battle is not over yet.
* Focus on the other exams you have applied for.
* Dont read too much into the VA keys supplied by the coaching institutes as they are never accurate enough although the accuracy might go up this time around(owing to a less ambiguous paper).

PS:Views are entirely personal.

Just for the record my performance last year:

DI:99.25 %ile
QA:91.54 %ile
VA:95.34 %ile
OA:98.99 %ile

No IIM calls...
