SPJain and MDI are worth a try. They are as good (maybe better) as some of the IIMs.

I was in a similar position as yours last year. I didn't apply to MDI as the application date was be4 CAT. I had applied to both SP and LIBA and got thru both. Though I had applied to LIBA as a back up option.

SP has 2 rounds of Group Interviews...they were good for me. For freshers, it is as difficult to get into SP as any other top business school but no more. It is a misconception that freshers r not selected. In fact, there is good intake of freshers for mktg n fin branches. For furthur info, go to the link mentioned by Pradeep.

i knw poor background, but i was good in extra curricular- such as was selected for various zonal level and national level competitions,was a state guide,formally trained in vocal and classical dance,art n all...and work ex of 2 yrs as an architect...
where do i stand even after getting 85%tile in CAT ? i m getting mock scores in the range of 70-80%tile? wat are my chances into SPJ? should i apply?:innocent:

i just wanna know wat ur profile was b4 u applied for SPJ?i mean whr u wer working,abt extra curriculars, etc. i only want to have a rough idea as to whr i stand b4 applying to the college...

Some positives working for you: Good Extracurrics, Architect
Some Negatives working against you : Only 1 I think, not so great acads

Now it is up to you to make sure that the positives over weigh the negatives. I am not talking just about SP. Any business school will have the same considerations. I think you should definitely go for SP and other top business schools. But make sure that you justify your acads properly.

Another thing, how can you be so sure that you will get just 85%ile in CAT? I am sure you will do much better and that will take care of your acads to some extent.

My profile when I applied to business schools last yr was, IT fresher from a not so known engineering college from WB, consistently good acads thruout and great extracurrics at school level. Except IIM and XL, i got thru everywhere else I applied.

Hey, I answered your query. Its there at the top of this page. Your profile is good. A good CAT score will be an added advantage. Do go ahead and apply at all business schools of your choice. Just to help you in selection, had I been in your place, I would have applied to SP, Nitie, MDI, XIMB, IMT-G and IMI.

There is no minimum percentile in SP. The selection is profile based. But you need to have at least 85%ile in the tests (CAT/XAT/GMAT) to be considered for final admissions.

Its not imperative that if you have sooper profile then only you can apply to SPJAIN.. generally its all about balanced weighted profile that they go for.. eg if u have done extremely well in ur school but ur perf dropped well below their minimum std in grads..then it shows an imbalance there..

also while filling the form you need to rate your profile..this is very important. as you need to be truthful and should not undervalue or overvalue urself while doing that eg a person having above 90 in his acads be it school or grad..and winning national awards n all if he rates his profile average then this shows he is undervaluing himself.as he shd clearly have marked it above average. this hence goes against fetching him a call

let me tell you last year many lists came and some of awesome profile couldn't make it while some average profile got the call..
