first of all gr8 thread guys...love the fact that ppl recommending other colleges than their own!!! seriously thats great!!!ok to ur specific query, adding on to whats been said,
if u are aiming for the top ones then this could be ur first list- iims,mdi,nitie,fms(both),iift(delhi),iit mumbai,spjain,xlri(in no part order)...dont think u shld miss out on anyone of those...ximb is a good insti...and sibm/scm are also pretty good...as far as mica goes its gr8 for its particular vertical so if u r into hardcore consumer marketing/advertising app for mica...to be very frank not too sure abt icfai hyd...I hear that glim is also doin pretty well..so yeah if u want to hedge ur risks esp with diff exams like snap u can app for these colleges... if u r not sure abt a 98plus cat percentile app for imi n imt (early to mid 90s)...
and dont app for hr unless u r truly interested even if its frm xl...good luck for cat...

Hello Sushil,
what i like in your profile is the 2 years experince at HSBC. It will help you a great deal in convincing any PI panel that you deserve to be in a reputed B School. As for applying to colleges. Scroll up on this thread and try and see the institute names that are generally applied to by the top candidates. Do not forget to hedge your risks by appearing for more than 1 exam ( CAT< XAT< SNAP) apply to those B Schools which dont use the CAT.

im a final year student b.tech ( dairy technology) from NDRI ( considered asia's top institute in dairy science ) ...well thts what people say...could never know y !

i have applied for ABM ( IIMA , IIML ) as im from agriculture field.

my acedamics r not so gud.

10th - 84
12th - 72
grd - 70 %

pretty decent co-curr record

national player at u-14 level , state winner u17 , school sports captain and loads of medals at university level , decent record in literary events too.

my institute has strong presence at iima ..perhaps best in country...with abt 2 students of 20-25 passouts getting into iima/iiml ( abm ) , though i acknowledge the fact tht they get a relaxation of abt 5 -10 % because of it being abm .


im in a dilemma wheather i should only focus on iims ( abm ) or shall shift to other institutes.....

if i find myself in a situation tht i dont get into iim and m able to make to an average bschool in field which is not related to agriculture ..shall i accept tht ??

or shall i give it another try ? ( for which i shall have to work in dairy/food industry with not a very high salary -- 12000 - 17000 pm ) which i dont really wanna do !!

plz suggest what my approach should be !!

i was in 70 -80 % range for first 5 CL mocks , for last 3 mocks i have been in 90-92% range !

can anybody tell what would be the CAT cut off for GLIM, chennai.
is it a good option for a person having 3.5 yrs of IT experience. (it has got an advantage that it is 1 yr programme compared to 2yrs)
do they offer any lateral placement.

hmmm first of all thats a great profile u have...believe me and I am sure pranav will back me on this...ur amazing extracurrics plus ur offbeat gradn will help u greatly in inters and beyond(mba instis esp iims desperately want a diverse batch)....But i think u shld first decide where ur intersts lie coz agri seems to be a very specific and distinct field...if u r sure aof a career there and with ur kinda profile I would advice u to do ur best in cat for a/l...or just wait another yr...dont think u shld bother too much abt the salary as u will be hanging on only for a yr or so and just prep harder for cat nxt yr if u dont make it...If however u want to do an mba this yr and/or want to move frm agri field..then its ur call.. how keen u are on doing an mba this yr and moving frm agri field....so just decide where u want ur career to be in...work hard anyways for cat.. think if u keep prepping u shld make it thru abm this yr..all the best..
