Dear All,

1.Most of you are aware that Pan-IIM Alumni
Association (“Pan-IIM AA”), representing the alumni of
all 6 IIMs was recently formed to mobilize pan-IIM
alumni on a common platform for networking and to
represent IIM alumni on matters of common interest.

2.Pan-IIM AA has articulated its position on OBC
Reservations via LETTERS addressed to the PRESIDENT OF
INDIA and the PM, on August 8, 2006. These Letters
(enclosed) outline why we oppose OBC reservation in
the IIMs and suggest alternate Affirmative Action
proposals.

3. Press coverage on Pan-IIM appeared in TOI and BS on
Aug 22nd and another press release is slated for Aug
23rd.

4. Pan-IIM AA and the Pan-IIM student body are
EXTREMELY DISTRESSED at the total lack of due
dilligence shown by Government in pushing through the
OBC reservation policy. Parliament is expected to
review and pass this Bill before AUG 25th,LAST DAY OF
MONSOON SESSION.

5. Today medical students and those from DU protested
again in Delhi.

6. WE AT PAN-IIM AA FEEL THAT THIS IS A NOW OR NEVER
SITUATION. WE CANNOT BE SILENT SPECTATORS FOREVER. WE
NEED TO RAISE OUR VOICE AS BOTH PROFESSIONALS AND
CITIZENS AT THE DECEITFUL GOVERNANCE THAT THE COUNTRY
IS WITNESSING.

7. A PEACEFUL PROTEST IS PLANNED ON AUG 24,06 AT
JANTAR MANTAR, PARLIAMENT STREET (due intimation to
Police will be given) at 5 PM sharp. WE REQUEST ALL
IIM/NON-IIM INDIVIDUALS WHO OPPOSE OBC QUOTAS TO TURN
UP AT JANTAR MANTAR WITH ANY PLACARDS YOU WISH TO
BRING AND SUPPORT PAN-IIM AA EFFORT.THE PRESS WILL BE
PRESENT.

8. SIMULTANEOULY ON THAT DATE, AT ALL 6 IIM CAMPUSES,
STUDENTS WILL COLLECT IN A CENTRAL VISTA AT 7 PM AND
LIGHT A CANDLE FOR MERITOCRACY,in a symbolic protest.
President of student bodies are hereby requested to
inform the Directors and also invite the press. ISB
Students could also consider the same.

9. ALUMNUS/OTHER CONCERNED CITIZENS ARE REQUESTED TO
JOIN THE IIM STUDENT BODY at IIM Campuses IN THIS
SYMBOLIC PROTEST. THE PRESS WILL ALSO COVER THIS.

10. WE REQUEST YOU TO DISEMMINATE THIS EMAIL TO ALL
EGROUPS YOU BELONG TO INCLUDING IIM,IIT,orkut
communities etc etc.

We look forward to your support in disemminating this
mail, encouraging like-minded folk to join the Protest
and also prepare posters to use at the venue.
If you cannot join, send your families/friends.The
Courts and Parliament will have to take notice THAT
THE PROPOSED POLICY DOES NOT HAVE SOCIAL CONSENSUS.
OUR NUMBERS ARE SMALL BUT WE HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE !
ALSO WE STAND FOR A PRINCIPLE and the only thing that
does not abide by majority rule is a person's
conscience (Harper Lee).
