Exclamation Evolving Logical Data Interpretation Section - 15-09-2006, 05:53 PM

Hie Amit,

I wanted your opinion on the evolving DI section. I feel this insight might help many mortal souls like me. If you have noticed the DILR section prior to CAT04, and to a certain extent prior to CAT05, DI was religiously spilt in different question patterns. DI Calculation based - 25 marks. DS - 5 marks. LR - 20 marks.

But in CAT 04 / CAT05, and a papers u see the drift, the DI and LR mainstreams seem merging into a third dimension. A Logical Data Interpretation. One cannot recognise the casellet, whether its pure DI or pure LR. Infact, these kind of casellet have been unnerving for me and maybe for many others. It takes more time and one may still end up loosing marks. My DI / LR / DS section accuracy, which was around 90-100% has now dipped to 60-70%! Why so? I am not feeling comfortable with these type of Qs. Though I tend to get those once in a blue moon, 30+ scores, which used to be more frequent earlier. I tend to spend time, mark / unmark / loose marks etc. So, the cycle sets in. What should I do?

hi amit,
this is janani.this is my first post to you.i hav been reading all the posts in this thread and finally decided to approach you to solve my problems
i am writing cat this year.i have a few problems.can you please help me out.
* first thing is that my mock scores are really horrid.i have not crossed 70 percentile at all (Except twice got 88 and 92 percentile).i got a score more than 45 in all the mockcats when i did them at home but am not able to near such a score in the exam.i have tried out all the strtegies i know and i dont find myself getting too nervous in the exam. please help me out.
* i am better at english than the other two.so i want to maximize in it .so i attempt all the questions.but i lose a lot marks in negative.my ratio of right to wrong is 8:3.what should i do to avoid this.should i stop attending all the ques?
*i heard that the mock tests from career avenues is good .how can i write the test and get my scores.please let me know the procedure.
* i have learnt all my basics thoroughly. Now what kind of preparation should i do for the next two months.
* i heard about your NUMBERS related material that can be dowmloaded from my friends.can you please forward it for me too.
please reply.waiting for your suggestions

regards JANANI

Dear Amit,

Self appraisal report as on 20th Sept

Received all material sent by you and have started with Algebra. Still at special Equations Practice test-2. Going thro it slowly but regularly. Improvements should be visible by Mid Oct.

Side by side RCs are also being attempted.

As of now I am attempting one mock every week in class room (Sunday, Time) and one mock every week in comfort of my office. Earlier I was giving mocks only for practice and was not too much bothered about score/rank, but with CAT only two months away have decided to give due respect to every test (Specially after grand debacle in Online MOCK 105).

You will be happy to know that my AIR in Time Mock 708 was 146 (good enough for me) but this may be due to some luck as well. I will be satisfied if it does not go below 500, in future mocks.

Earlier I was facing some issue with OMR marking as well, but same has been sorted out.

I have zeroed in on my attempt strategy as RC>VA (50Min), then logic + DI (50 Min) and in last 50 Min QA. In case I am sure about 15-16 marks in QA in less time, I plan to return to DI section as marks per minute are more in DI for me. With this strategy I am able to clear cut-offs in most of the tests and my marks are almost equal in VA & DI but little less in QA.

I am satisfied with the progress so far, but if you foresee any problem with my approach, please guide me.

Regards

Arun
