Looks like CAT 2006 is going to be is Going to be mother of All CAT's.
I think now is the time to keep your mind open & be prepared for any kind of paper pattern.

It's our predictions & believe of the paper patterns which may let us down. So work hard & go to exam with an open mind!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the Best PPL

It Doesn't matter if you are a lion or deer, when the Sun comes up you'd better be running.

Re: CAT 2006 Notification - 14-07-2006, 12:24 PM

Hi everybody!

I have come to know that CAT’s duration has been extended to 150 minutes from 120 minutes i.e. a 25% increase in time.

I am very sure that increase in time would be commensurate with proportionate (or most probably, disproportionate ) increase in either number of questions or their difficulty.

Change of pattern or otherwise, the basic tenets of sailing smoothly through the exam remain (and take my word, will remain so forever): a well-prepared mind, excellent decision-making capabilities & ability to handle nerve-wracking pressure. After all, it’s not for nothing that you will get jaw-dropping pay packages at the end of two years

Best of luck to all!

Let’s start (step on the gas )& don’t stop until the goal is reached!

one thought struck me:
Our life, it seems, has been reduced to a CAT & a mouse (we are software engineers) game! J

Urs is a valid point but in the bulletin, it is mentioned that "you will not be allowed to enter the examination hall after 10:00". So, it means either they want the cadidates to fill in some information for around 1 hour before starting the exam or if only half an hour is there to write the information and everything in the sheet, then I think timing is 2 hrs 30 mins.
newyaz....all d best in every case

[quote=Blank_mind]All i can say is that, even a big astrologer would be failed to predict about CAT.

Example----Such a honcho institute as Time failed to guess and made the AIMCAT`s according to last year CAT and now ,they, havnt a competent time to alter their Mock in just this sort span of time.

Same is the thing for all the institutes.:grab:
So do not rely on any institute......crack CAT on your own.

Re: CAT 2006 Notification - 14-07-2006, 02:54 PM

Hello PPL,

CAT 06 will be having 3 sections as it is clearly mentioned in the selection criteria of IIMA.

CAT is gradually getting tougher day by day...

last year many students complained that they had very few questions to choose from

so what they will be trying to do is increasing the no of questions without reducing the difficulty level and give more time to students.

So my take ,

it will be on the similar lines as that of CAT 05 in terms of difficulty level

but the no of questions will definitely increase ...

Cheers,
Oracle

I think its goona be easier paper this time. Reason

1. they have increased the time meaning they want to put less pressure.

2. just like Jee which has reduced the difficulty level of qns drastically so as to make it less demanding for students CAT might do the same way.

3. "Please note that the cut off for short listing SC/ST/PWD candidates for group discussion and
personal interview would not be less than 17% score in each of the three sections of CAT 2006 and no less than
25% score in aggregate. For other categories, it would be no less than 25% in each of the three sections and no less
than 33% in aggregate. The actual cut-offs used for short-listing, however, may be higher than the above mentioned
percentage scores and would depend upon the performance of candidates in CAT-2006."

yaar 33% in cat-05 means 50 nos meaning ~ 99.5 %ile (750 students) and above that they want balanced scores also.score of 12.5 in quant and DI could fetch you ~95%ile+ this way they won't be able to select more than 400-450 for GD/PI.
Also if they increase the level of difficulty further how can they expect students to score 33% in aggregate.

4. Now to ease the pressure due to uncertainity involved in selection they are now more and more reveling their selection criteria. First about negative marking than cutoffs.

5. Also if you talk about brains then guys who are repeating CAT (like me ) have better preparation and chance of cracking a tougher question ( more exposure to different sort of question over a longer period of preparation time). That's why Jee lowered its difficulty level to nullify the effect of repeaters and coaching classes which used to prepare students for these tougher questions.

also chill guys whether its hard or easy they have to fill their same no of seats in any case.getting low scores won't make IIMs to decrease their seats or having more score won't make them to have more seats

Its unlikely that they are going to give quant 1/5 of weightage.

so you can expect more of reasoning questions in VA. short and tough RC's. easy quant. higher cutoff pecentage ( not percentile due to more easy papers). no DI and LR . two sections verbal and quant 1-1 hour each and a written section
