CAT and Related DiscussionDiscuss information and B-schools under the toughest and most exclusive management entrance exam in India. The CAT - The Common Admission Test.
It is good that you mentioned this stuff given in the CAT brochure, as stated individually by IIM Ahmedabad. There is one thing I have highlighted above as can be seen - I hope its very clear...
As a loophole, or as a hint, IIMA as left a clue for all of us - CAT 2006, at least according to the brochure sticks to THREE sections, even though it is of 2 and a half hours. I am really surprised as to how no one seemed to notice the same. So relax guys, the stuff will be all the same - DI< Quant and Verbal. We just gotto stick to our regular preparation and have belief in ourselves.
I hope the IIMs are just enough to stick to what they have stated in the brochure...
Please pass on this info to all the coachin classes, just in case no one has noticed it as yet...
All the best for CAT 2006 to all...
Ashish
It can't be a loophole. atleast give some credits to institues like IIT's and IIMs for conducting exams succesfully on such a massive scale.
well you can take it another way also. they have declared that this is what is happening uptil now. and this is how we are examining the students. Its time to say goodbye to this and now we have new strategy to choose the students which we again declare in our bulletin 20 yrs down the line.

If this is the case then i am afraid to say that this will not be a good management paper.
What i personally think is that its the decision making, on the spot thinking, strategy which are traits of a good manager. By giving ample amount of time for few difficult Qs - will not test the above criteria. There will be no pressure on the person who will be taking the test. Manager is a smart person and not a total brainy person. (this doesn't mean managers is totally fool )
You all must have witnessed that college toppers who rote like anything (with exceptions) are not the best in the industry.
me too second you mate
don't know whether they are chossing managers who can work on excel or want scientists who can make softwares like excel.

@amit- as i said its a matter of perception..........whether u consider a set DI or LR
but the fact is data r given in tabuler or charts form. and that is what DATA INTREPRETATION is.
but the absense of DI in cat ??: ............i guess probability is almost nil.
the speed with which DI is vanishing from cat paper (05- 10 marks 04-20 marks , before that I supppose it used to be of 30 marks out of 50) it won't be surprising that we may have no DI

"Please note that the cut off for short listing SC/ST/PWD candidates for group discussion and
personal interview would not be less than 17% score in each of the three sections of CAT 2006 and no less than
25% score in aggregate. For other categories, it would be no less than 25% in each of the three sections and no less
than 33% in aggregate. The actual cut-offs used for short-listing, however, may be higher than the above mentioned
percentage scores and would depend upon the performance of candidates in CAT-2006."
One thing just now struck me. 25% 33% of what total score or highest score as is used in while calculating cat percentile.
so if you look this for cat 05 ( I think ~40 are the highest marks for both quant and di and 50 for verbal and total of 131) we have cutoff for A as 10-di,10-quant, 12.5 verbal and 44 overall. that's very much realistic.
So guys I take my previous explanation. Koi paper easy nahi hone wala hai. As we have OBC quata also the no of seats has decreased and this selection criteria will hold good even if paper become twice as tough ( they need less guys for GD/PI so they need to either make criteria more stringent or paper more stringent) .So don't waste time here on reading my posts go and mug up just 117 days are remaining.:mrg reen::mrgr een:

Viva CAT 2006 !! Chakku Churi Tez Kara Lo.......!!
In 2 hrs format one could play it safe and do away with not attempting 'difficult' ques.....But, all other factors remaining same, with 2.5 hrs format one will be 'forced' to attempt the 'difficult' ques too. Maybe IIMs have hit upon a good way to separate rice from the chaff
HII thnk we shud take this step by IIMs as a positive measureIts changd not only 4 u or me , but 4 all the people takin CAtso if it turns out to be a surprise then it would be 4 all
