If u think U can get into PG program try all out for tht first. Since if u satisfy the minimum CGPA criteria in ur PG frm IIM thn u can get into FPM any day later without any entrance procedures!! If u think u can get into PG program , but prefers instead to go for FPM and get into academia...Cheers !!! We need more people like you ...jus make sure the same enthu persists thro a minimum of 4 yrs of "extreme" slogging!!! :P
Btb im interested in FPM but later on in the day !! Mebbe after a wife and coupla kids !!!

Re: FPM of IIMs - 15-12-2003, 10:33 AM

Hi
I already have 3 master degrees with the latest one - an MS in finance from NUS, singapore.I have already got 14 published papers in 7 countries with one in cambridge and i have also presented a paper in the global insight world economic outlook conference in washington. Now its time to stop boasting and come back to the basics. I am very much research oriented and very much prepared to slog for 4 years. Hi guys i am already 26 and most of the guys n gals might consider me to be a fool. Well a fool I am-. Now come on please answer my questions, i have heard of guys with percentiles from 82-84 getting calls. Please verify. Then on I have heard that FPM guys require a CGPA higher than the PGP guys. Come on that is again asking too much. But thank u guys, there is a minute group out there who supports me.

And finally is it worth all the trouble? Any idea of alumnis and final placements?
PSsst.. Iam soon to marry my lady love( But first I need to get into an FPM programme)

Hey,

The best source of info regarding the profiles of current FPM grads and the requirements would best be answered by the IIM grads here on the forum. Check the Alumni section and check out student profiles. Feel free to PM them with your queries.

Rakesh from IIMA is quite active here, he too can answer your queries.

Mighty impressive. Would like to hear more, if you don't mind ! Great profile, but what explains the collection of degrees ? Work ex ?

I am not aware of the technicalities of getting into the FPM, but I see that you have been studying for the past 6 years ( 3 Masters ) and still want to do the same for the next 4 years .. What kind of jobs are you looking at ? Just to get an idea of how the situation actually looks at your end

I know , I haven't been too helpful, but just trying to get a feel of what you are trying to achieve here : Hope you don't mind.

Cheers,

Re: FPM of IIMs - 15-12-2003, 01:52 PM

hi

no time to post a big reply. so a quick clarification. FPMs need higher grades in their subject of specialization. it doesn not mean that they have to score higher than the PGPs. for example if ur sub. is P and QM, then the FPM needs to score a B in that which wud mean a GPA of more than 2.75 which is not that difficult. however if u score more than 2.75 in P and QM u will definitely be more than above average in the current PGP batch the course is pretty tuff... the PGPs have to slog only n their first year, the FPMs have to slog a minimum of 4 years(record time 4 finishing an FPM is 3.5 years btw)

about placements, half the batch is probably interested in an academic line of career and the rest 4 the corporate world. i am sure that with ur profile u will b able to get a gr8 job. alumni network is pretty strong. and the course has an awesme reputation. in fact in the last batch there are many PGPs from IIM B doing a second FPM degree from here.. FPMs shud be able to get a job upper in the hierarchy than a PGP definitely. however, i don't have much idea abt the companies coming down here for FPMs. will try and get more details abt percentiles soon.

and oh i 4got, plz marry asap b4 u join 4 FPM. else u may have to wait some time b4 u c ur lady love after ur couses start..

Hai
Hi guys, I think I have put so much emphasis over to form rather than to content.. Really sorry on that count. Well for me it has been studies all too long. Come on don’t be too sarcastic, I had also been involved with certain NGO’s as a project leader with the planning commission. I had to resign when relations took a sour turn as they usually do when you try for “ Governance India Incorporated”

Well I have heard of guys going in for corporate jobs (very well paid ones) or they are otherwise absorbed in the respective IIM’s as faculty. Well as I told you earlier I am very eager to pursue my research since I feel that the underlying academics which I have been versed with to date have unfortunately fallen of standards and it feels too pedestrian. In no way am I hurting those fresh graduates out there. I have been working as a junior trader with Boston Capital in Singapore for some time( 2 months is some time guys) where I felt the technicality of money making taking precedence over mental stability. For all those out there, my research interests are on derivatives and my current area of interest is on game theoretic modelling in options and in the pricing of options using discrete time series. (Caught u this time..Bingo!)

Bye n take care. Have a great day. Reg my marriage its been a long affair guys, long 8 years. So I think she will wait between courses, but the Big question is Can I?
