Hai Rakesh,
Hi I think ur right...the rope seems to get thinner and thinner and by the end of the walk U would have trouble sighting the rope.

I am a little bit circumspect of the fpm programme. I am fed up of life abroad, or I think I could have easily gone in for a phd abroad. Since i am looking forward to a phd ( 4 years for studies in a place like IIM is no mean feat) I would like to be pretty sure before i jump the bandwagon. Since u pretty well know my profile by now, I would like to know the importance of work ex being given to admissions to fpm. I agree being 26 i am woefully short of it, but then on i have got some presentations and degrees to boost. there goes me blowing the trumpet again..Sorry

i would love to get hold of any alumins or would like to know in detail how the finance guys have fared.
bad news is that there is only one guy in finance for the past 4 years. Pretty good showing yar....
nothing new in here, still not strated on my studies. Have to
bye n take care

hi is there any option to chat in this forum.
well all the best for ur exam.

Rakesh i got one for you. I would like to know if the hapless fpms do have any chance of summer jobs like the pgps ?
Any other sources of income generation?

Re: FPM of IIMs - 20-12-2003, 02:56 PM

hi abraham:

why dont you visit the IIM Web Sites first? most of ur queries are answered in their FAQs on FPM... especially, the FAQ listed by IIMB is quite informative..

to answer your last question.. well, in addition to the monthly stipend (might vary from Rs. 6000 to 10000), you might get chances to work with the faculty on their ongoing projects...avenues for which are plenty, provided you are pro-active.

work ex is not a must for applying for FPM, but they do give lots of weightage to people with good work ex... you need to have a vey good academic background.. people with good CAT scores and decent shows in GD/PI, without much acads, might get into PGP.. this is not true for FPM...

and you need to be very clear about your Goals, especially why FPM and not PGP? what do you plan to do after FPM?

by the way, are you an applicant for this year?

about me... i have applied to all the four IIMs offering FPM.. and gearing up for the next version of CAT 03

i am a post graduate electronics engineer, with over 9 years of ex in R&D and industry in the areas of information systems... presently working in a US based ICT Firm... obviously, am aspiring to do an FPM in Information Systems...

regards

roy

Re: FPM of IIMs - 20-12-2003, 06:46 PM

hi
as far as i know FPMs can sit for summers placements along wth the PGPs, and it is the discretion of the companies. most of the companies who r not coing for summers alone( meaning using summer purely as means for final recruiting thru PPOs) allow FPMs too.
u will get decent stipends too in summers. and one more thing , ( I am not too sure abt this) think there is some monthly stipend for FPMs in IIM A. plus here r some 4 or 5 infosys schoalrships and some other scholarships for FPMs to the tune of 25k per month and some even more. will contact some of the FPMs and et u know the full details later...btw, usually summer stipends r a lot better than 6k to 10 k don't worry..
i think the monthly stipend if u join in IIM A is 6 k per month.
and one more thing, would u explain what sort of salaries r u expecting after u pass out. i mean wth ur degree of work ex and the nature of work done, u have t be very sure abt it b4 joining.
will mail in more details later.

Hai Guys
Rakesh , U may be talking about the infy fellowship but its only for those who are into hardcore IT research. So I may well forget about it. Since its four years (min) and with a probable marriage in a year or two (I am not young-am 26 now) I feel that 6k would not be enough. Its not that I cannot adjust but I think u realise the difficulty. Anyway I think I am jumping ahead of the wagon this time. I think I would have ample time to worry about it once (Godwillingly I do get admission) . Well Rakesh, I had looked into the IIMA site but it provides no clue whatsoever about the FPM placements. Anyway keep posting whenever ur free. Hi rakesh don’t get me wrong.. I am not after money. I threw away a 100k job in singapore and came back to India wholeheartedly willing to work for 6 k , if godwillingly I do get admission. I am hardcore research oriented and would love to teach and do quality research..nothing more and nothing less..I would be very happy with a salary of about 25-30 k after I graduate. Even if its 10K and the right job I would be happy. So I think I cleared ur doubhts on that one.
Wow I thought I was the only one in Trivandrum giving FPM. Hi Roy give me ur Ph N0. If ur in trivandrum I would love talking to you. BY the way ru preparing for CAT , I mean r u preparing towards CAT from any institute. Anyway I would be glad to talk to you. Bye guys and catch u later.

Hiya
Come on its getting boring out here with no one posting any queries. Please free to post any Doubts on finance, particularly on futures & options. Well don’t get me wrong being too vainglorious, it’s just that I know a tip of the flotsam. Mail in anything you know about the FPM programme, In fact anything on research and its methodologies.

Bye
Abraham
