IIM-C or Emory ?? - 18-04-2006, 03:37 AM

Hello ppal!
This is Satyajeet Iyer, an Env Engineer here at Panama City, Florida
I've been an avid reader at this great forum board. I just had to post to introduce myself and thank you all for the invaluable information and guidance.
With all the resources gathered from this place i was able to get an Admit to IIM-C as overseas candidate and also at Emory B schoool in Atlanta, GA.
So this happens to be my current predicament. Kindly suggest what option seems a better choice
Short term goal: Get an overseas placement so that i can pay off the loan quickly
Long Term ( after 2 to 3 years) get back to India and work

Poss. fees
IIM-C 22,000 $ (excluding living expenses)
Emory 48,000 $ (excluding living expenses and including scholarship)

Career choice - Corporate finance or consulting (strategy)

Thanks for your time

Thats a novel confucion!
As your medium to long term goals are in India, IIM C appears to be the obvious choice. How does Emory help you locate in India? It depends on how much loan you already owe but IIM C leverages $26k flat on future fees. Also, cost of living would be a fraction at C. Also, IIM C offers you quite a lot of opportunities for foriegn placements and as u already have foreign workex, it would be a bit easier for u. But, u may find IIM C way too rigourous to your liking and the desi competition way stiff

What's obvious is obviously wrong

@satya

Having got the C admit myself I could be biased

But I believe replacing the cost effective education from IIM ABC, the only US MBAs you can choose are the big name ones...

If you are really serious about coming back to India for long term remember that its an Indian degree that will give you the fundamental understanding of the indian environment Also the PGP from ABC has good potential in giving you a foreign job too... C being especially good for your choice fields...

So if you are really serious about coming back to India after a 3+ years stint abroad I would say go for IIM C... If the plans are long term stay abroad obviously Emory is the better choice...

Good Luck
K
