Re: Working for 12-14 hours and preparing for MBA - 16-07-2008, 03:16 PM

Most of the approaches for preparation are good... But one needs to look where those hours are going....

First of all... in week days one can't expect people to devote time in a concentrated effort... instead of going through study material one can surely spend time on newspaper editorials, or some book. [TIP] Just try to stay away from TV and everything else will fall into its place.

Dedicate at least one of saturday/sunday entirely for study. Lets say - Sunday... Go for the mock in the morning. and rest of the time analyzing the paper.... Analysis in the sense .... Proper Analysis... Most f us tend to go like this... English is alright... QA/DI .. i have done this right.. just have a look at the wrong attempts.. This is completely wrong.. One needs to look at even the correct attempts for any other optimized approaches... This will also help in identifying the topics which you don't know... You can either cover it up or can instantly identify it next time and skip to the next question.

I am saying all this because most of us know these basics and we also know that its these basics which we don't get it right.

All D Best....

Now this is one hell of a personal question... :argue:
Jokes apart... It is purely dependent on the person's previous knowledge and understanding. One thing we can suggest is try covering the topics which repel you the most... who knows when it might become one of your favorites..

and yes solving papers is just a part of it... you do need to devote time for preparing things that seem alien to you

hey kapil...
even m in a similar situation as you, working in an IT firm...
well firstly the more you practice, the better it is...but you shudnt you try overdo yourself by sacrificing ur sleep...get atleast 6 hrs daily...
c wat i wud suggest is tat u shud read paper thorughly while ur in office...then daily @ night for around 2 hrs, study Q and DI, try to do both daily or atleast on 1 per day, alternately...

Analysing the paper is also very imp but tats wat u shud for sunday...mostly it ll take up half of ur sunday (test + analysis)...
use ur saturday wisely...get around 6 hrs of quality time to study for if poss all 3 sections...
pm me if u have any queries...

Hi Kapil,
For your daily pattern i can sugest something....

DI - Select 4 sets one of each type graph based, table based,2 logical on a daily basis. do that on week days.... take 10 min each for 1 set

Quant - Do quant topic wise... Segregate questions from last years MOCK CATs. Do them topic wise one by one... Do 1 hour daily..

English - 1 full sectional test from last 2 years Mock Cats...

Source - Last 2 years MOCK CAT papers of TIME and You can also do IMS for english..

Hope that helps.... You can PM me further details.... All the best... Work Hard...

Re: Working for 12-14 hours and preparing for MBA - 26-11-2008, 12:24 PM

hi puys,

I need help,
I am 22 and completed my graduation in BBA from IP univ and currently in market research firm,bt want to switch over to financial research profile
i am very confused as to how to proceed on this,
i know that i want to do MBA only from any top 10 B-school,I am mad to get into IIIMs. Many a times i dream with open eyes and see myself sitting with IIM Puys in library.
But i m also interested in doing CFA and will be giving level 1 in May 09.
So how will i proceed on this matter as i will be 25 when i will complete my CFA with 3 years experience and then i will study for CAT.

Please suggest me on this matter as to how should i proceed.

Re: Working for 12-14 hours and preparing for MBA - 02-12-2008, 02:32 PM

Hi Everyone,
I am from Kolkata.I am facing a very difficult situation in my life.I have more than 4.5 years of experience(RIL-1.5yrs and BHEL-2.5yrs) and am married. My jobs invlove lot of tours and that also for more than 10 days at varios power projects site in far flung area.In such condition,I find difficult to plan for study and remain disturbed.Somehow,I manage to take CAT'08 but fell flat with total score 62.This year,It was my third attempt.During my earlier attempts,I have been scoring even worse.I need some good competitive batch and want to attend one good coching institute. But,I can not do it regularly because I am not stable at one station.i am desperate to be in IIMs.I want to quit my job and join any private firm so that i can put some quality hours for preparation but again my family members don't want me to leave govt job.
What should I do? Pls suggest me?
