I've dreams. I wanna own a ferrari. I wanna see Las Vegas. I wish I had the iphone. In fact, first of all I wish my parents had an a/c in their room after spending whole of their lives thriftly.

AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM:-

I wanna do it ASAP. Now tell me ppl. Do I have another option that could set my for a rendezvous with my dreams in the next 5-6 yrs ??? Ohh and FY(kind)I, my problem is just the less exacerbated version of those of millions and millions of ppl in this country. And those millions, my friend, don't even have access to a computer to post their disgust at how unfair life can be.

I appreciate and respect your dreams.

the fury you have in you will certainly make you rich one day

BUT............

the day when you could own a ferrari, numerous jeans and a uncountable A/Cs you will feel the same emptiness that you feel now.

Boss the grass always looks greener on the other side

don't make money your motive, Go find find yourself your true passion and follow it till the end you'll be much richer brighther and happier. Believe ME.

buddies,
a few words of caution and some of experience.

mba is not the gateway to dreams, its the path (and that too maybe, cause not every mba is doing well.) secondly, with the recession on who knows what the scene will be two years hence.

in my view, the dreams dont come with an mba. the dreams come only when we learn what an mba has to offer. not by the books, but by the looks, i.e. the baility to define and understand the potential of any subject under consideration by one look at it. this defines whether those dreams may come, or they may go. for my friends, mba is

"the streetcar named desire, ride well, ride hard, cause when a flat tyre comes along, only the rider can ride the ride, and it is only he who matters."

Life is unfair.. Really i agree. Im a socialist stuck being capitalist only because i dont know a way out to help people who aren't well off. Anyways, to the main question. I have the same dreams, aspirations as you. Hell, i even want to do an MBA to get there. Its almost like you are a clone of mine

EVEN IM SICK OF THIS N*******Y LIFESTYLE.

But im willing to take life as it comes. I badly want to get out of mediocrity. But it'll happen. Trust yourself and relax. You'll find a way through. Just not by wanting things immidiately and doing the wrong things. ANY EMPTINESS can be filled if you're really rich. YOu can also buy alot of things with that money.

The entire point of my seemingly useless post is that an MBA is a step after which you find your way. Somehow someway you'll do it. Just relax and live the present or you'll consume your day in worrying over how you will ever achieve that insormountable goal of your, like I worry.

Just do everything you can to reach there. Work hard, study, work, do lae night and it'll happen. If it doesn't then after another 20 years you would be able to treat a bum like me to a beer atleast.

PS: Mods: s/he isn't my clone.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Unless you're Man Utd, in which case you let the other teams get ahead and then start sprinting as they all fall apart.

Re: To Hell With Mba... - 09-10-2009, 11:21 PM

Good thread. I haven't read through it all.. but tried to get a jist of it. It's rather an interesting question. WHY are we slogging away all this time to get into any good MBA school? WHY is ISB number 1 on everyone's list.. even though for 20 lakh rupees its not even a degree program.. just a certification. etc etc etc

I think the question might be taken retroactively. WHY did we go for engineering? WHY did we prefer CS (if we got the right ranks)? WHY did we slog away to get into IITs?

Basically this is what life has become. It's almost as if we lead our lives based on a template. Not a lot of people know what they want from their lives - hence the reason that we look for the answer within others.

In my case, I couldn't get admission in IIT or any other Engg college in India. So I "ran" away to US. Got a degree in Computer Science. Lost a lot of hair over H1b visas and whatever. Got a job as a consultant. Traveled throughout the US. Made good money. Lost money in Vegas. Spent it on nice cars. Got laid off. Found another job in IT. Now have realized that I can't be part of IT for a long time. Can't see myself doing this forever. Maybe it's something I should've realized in 9th class -- but being 25, imagine its not too late.

Want to head back to India. Left too much back there. Trying to realize that dream. To stay out of IT, realized that MBA is probably the fastest way to change careers. Hence am here! (and GMAT in 2 weeks)..

This is the truth. If I had another way to head back to India (business, job offer not in IT, etc) - I wouldn't be going down this route.

Now this is the real reason. Let's see what BS i come up with for the essays
