Good thread. I haven't read through it all.. but tried to get a jist of it. It's rather an interesting question. WHY are we slogging away all this time to get into any good MBA school? WHY is ISB number 1 on everyone's list.. even though for 20 lakh rupees its not even a degree program.. just a certification. etc etc etc
I think the question might be taken retroactively. WHY did we go for engineering? WHY did we prefer CS (if we got the right ranks)? WHY did we slog away to get into IITs?
Basically this is what life has become. It's almost as if we lead our lives based on a template. Not a lot of people know what they want from their lives - hence the reason that we look for the answer within others.
In my case, I couldn't get admission in IIT or any other Engg college in India. So I "ran" away to US. Got a degree in Computer Science. Lost a lot of hair over H1b visas and whatever. Got a job as a consultant. Traveled throughout the US. Made good money. Lost money in Vegas. Spent it on nice cars. Got laid off. Found another job in IT. Now have realized that I can't be part of IT for a long time. Can't see myself doing this forever. Maybe it's something I should've realized in 9th class -- but being 25, imagine its not too late.
Want to head back to India. Left too much back there. Trying to realize that dream. To stay out of IT, realized that MBA is probably the fastest way to change careers. Hence am here! (and GMAT in 2 weeks)..
This is the truth. If I had another way to head back to India (business, job offer not in IT, etc) - I wouldn't be going down this route.
Now this is the real reason. Let's see what BS i come up with for the essays
