I cant afford to start a business on my own that'll be worth my dreams. I can't goto lucrative B-Schools abroad bcoz of d same reesn. And as is a well known fact, govt. pays you a pittance even after the 6th pay commission. I have clear goals. I wanna be rich ASAP. I've never went to a 5 star hotel. AND I'M SICK OF THIS NIGGARDLY LIFESTYLE.

I've dreams. I wanna own a ferrari. I wanna see Las Vegas. I wish I had the iphone. In fact, first of all I wish my parents had an a/c in their room after spending whole of their lives thriftly.

AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM:-

I wanna do it ASAP. Now tell me ppl. Do I have another option that could set my for a rendezvous with my dreams in the next 5-6 yrs ??? Ohh and FY(kind)I, my problem is just the less exacerbated version of those of millions and millions of ppl in this country. And those millions, my friend, don't even have access to a computer to post their disgust at how unfair life can be.
Hi Prashant,

Firstly , best of luck to you for your dreams. I really wish that you fulfill your dreams.
But, here i see another problem. The problem cos of hype created by media over MBA salaries. Trust me, show me any MBA in corporate world who owns a ferrari. I think none or at maximum one or two. It is not that easy. What you get in hand after deduction of taxes, allowances, performances bonuses etc can surely give you a comfortable life but it cannot guarantee you a flat in downtown mumbai or posh delhi even after 15 years of work.

Thats the reality my friend, do not see an MBA degree as a key to a treasure. It is just an appendage to fulfill your dreams. What will take you there is your attitude, your talent and skill and the hard work you put in.Your knack of spotting business opportunities will give you that push to surge ahead from people and that is something very intuitive and comes by being on streets and learning the "business" as they say. No degree or book can teach you that.

Cheers,
Rohit

I think any degree is just a "degree" until you have the will to make it through and the passion for what you are learning , coming to the money part , for mechanical engineers the oil exploration companies such as halliburton pay a bomb given that it is damn tough to get through and it is a harrowing life but if you like what u are doing nothing seems too bad ( its basically einsteins theory of relativity - sitting next to a beautiful girl a year passes by like a minute , sitting on a hot stove a minute seems like an year ) so you can love what you do and be the best at it ( In technology there are enough companies paying a bomb) and yet the maximum people giving b school exams are people working in the technology sector , somewhere down under its an escapre route , but in the end any job can be good or monotonous depending on whether you like it or not .... if you like something does not seem as a big deal to work hard and be the best at it but if you dont its tough .

Re: To Hell With Mba... - 04-04-2008, 11:36 AM

hey prashant

firstly welcome to pagalguy...m impressed by ur attitude to speak out ur heart....but m a little concerned with your goals in life...we all here wanna be rich...we all want money n fame n a luxurious life....but we here want something more than all that...we here want dignity n pride in what we do...we also want love n happiness...we want respect from our peers n family to say the least...guys wanna have a good wife/GF and gals wanna same of the opposite sex...we all wanna sit back on the rocking chair some day with our grand children on our lap n have good stories to tell them...ok line line thoda jyada ho gaya ...neways..

my friend there are a lot of ways to be rich...u count the bill gates, the Warren Buffetts et al...but you forget to count the dawood abrahims n the choota rajans of the world or the men running the Colombia's Drug Cartel....filthy rich ppl i tell ya...you dont have to do an MBA to get rich here...y the hell on earth do you wanna fight 2Lakh + ppl writing a competitive exam like CAT which you seriously don’t know how u gonna fair in...note that a lot of them take about 2-4 attempts to finally hit it big time in CAT...then slog ur a$$ for 2 years at a B school....fight it out in the placement sessions...n at the end the best u do is land a job that could get u say a 10-20 lakh package (remember the number of ppl getting those corer + packages can be counted on ur finger tips)...

the problem with the last few lines above is that all this is so much easier said then done...not to forget the mental trauma after failure...n even after that ur not sure if u’ll be successful at work and actually make it big like the indra nooyi n the likes of her...coupled with a frustrating job that you know u gonna leave for a good B school so most of us are least interested...i always jokingly tell my frds that a serious MBA aspirant is non employable...cause he can think abt nothing but CAT ...such a grim situation dont u agree...lets consider the other option shall we...

you start of with a local goon beating up ppl in ur locality n collecting hafta...then u kill him to take over the gang...i guess if u have the skills u can manage this in a couple of years...now look at yourself...u already have like a couple of dozen guys directly reporting to you...no problem of paying taxes n the form 16 at the end of the financial year...u dont have to rack your brains to find good ways to make investment to save on taxes either...then u take the next big step of kidnapping a big businessman (or probably a B schooler who just landed himself a high paying job )...some contacts to the bhai in dubai n ur into the big league man...iss line mai thoda risk hai...but then as 50cents said..."GET RICH OR DIE TRYING..."...wat say u

if u find the above idea interesting then i guess there’s no point wasting any time here...if you share our dreams...n make it big the right way ur more then welcome here ...enjoy ur stay n best of luck

PS : not all are in here for money or 'just money'...many of us have big dreams n equally bigger goals n we see n MBA as a way to reach that...but i guess everyone would agree that no one minds success accompanied by a little wealth ...the icing on the cake I say

@prashant rich is a relative term man...no matter how much many u have there will be someone who is richer than you are...if you keep fighting to be richer than ppl around you its gonna be an endless one man...n i seriously believe in wat a wise man once said 'the best things in life are free' ...sure its good to have money...but u need to find satisfaction in both personal and professional life.. thats more important i believe ...at some point of time u gotta learn to say no to money and yes to life...

So here’s a cheers to life

Having born into a lower middle class existence, I somehow feel connected with prashant... In fact my heart goes out to him... He puts it perfectly.. And he doesn't mince words either...

And i guess not many ppl understand or have felt the drab weariness in our everyday lives.. Just looking at my father working 24/7 to eke out a semblance of a living even when he is supposed to retire makes me burn.. And ppl still ask is money the only solution to all our ills?? Truth be said.. it is.. at least in my life...

And you know what is the worst part?? Ironically, I am lucky enough to count as my best buddies, some of the most well to do ppl in my city... and they know of my situation and so always insist on payin for me through all our escapades... While i am forever grateful to them, I just wish that someday, I might myself be able to give them what they have always given me...

All this needs MONEY... And as prashant said, I wish for the day when i can be able to buy something that i have always wanted without worryin about whether i can afford it or not...

And I believe an MBA is the only way out of it... For ppl like me, my education is my only strength.. I cant afford to start a business even though my head might be burstin with ideas.. Heck.. banks r not willin to give me a loan to do my MBA, forget abt startin my own business...

As i can see now, MONEY is the solution and an MBA is the way to that solution.. I dont want a ferrari.. I dont want a posh delhi flat.. All i want is a roof that my mom and dad can call their own... Period.

Dude , I agree that money is one of the most important factor but I think not the only one,Would you work for a firm that pays you as grand as 1 Crore per annum and the only thing that you would be doing is takig Xerox , most of us won't .So Dude the other factors like recognition and job satisfaction is also important. perhaps power is a bigger attraction than money.

Hi Rohit, I think I couldn't make myself pretty clear in my earlier post.

I agree with what you say. That its upto us if we wanna reach the apogee or the nadir vis a vis our financial conditions and an MBA cant guarantee that. Ultimately it'll be ME and my METTLE that'll work the magic. But my point was...AN MBA CAN GIMME THE CHANCE I NEED. And same is the case for millions in this country. See, every1 is not Dhirubhai Ambani who carved out empire outta nothing. And I have no qualms (and I'm speaking for those who cant) in admitting that though I might not be as smart as him but I sure am determined like hell to make my life better and I need a chance. And that an MBA degree could provide me.

Moreover, I feel that this competition for that coveted MBA degree is going to be more and more intense as more and more ppl realise that this is probably the quickest way from rags to riches as is the case with IAS.

See my point is simple. Who cares about big theories or all the demonised fundas of management and all that crap??? I M HERE TO MAKE MONEY...A LOT OF MONEY...AND A LOT OF IT I WILL.

My friend maybe you dont realise what 1 crore means for the not-so-privileged 80-85 crore of this country. 1 crore??? There are people who'll kill for 1 lakh. It's a matter of need buddy. Some feel their needs can be fulfilled by a govt. job so they join it. Some feel their needs will be fulfilled by an IIT degree so they strive for that. And similarly many feel MBA can fulfill or give them a chance to fulfill their needs and so they want an MBA degree.

IT'S A NEED BASED COMPETITION RATHER THAN A GREED BASED COMPETITION. AND DO YOU KNOW WHY??? BECAUSE GREED CAN GET YOU THINGS YOU DESIRE BUT NEED WILL GET YOU THINGS WITHOUT WHICH YOU CANT SURVIVE!

Ohh and on a lighter note...man nobody commented on the 'iphone' stuff i wrote???

Maaaaaaaaannnn.....I'll kill for the iphone. I so badly wish i had that gadget!!!

but i have just one questions for those who can answer??? when the interviewer asks "Why MBA?", why dont they wanna hear "Sir, I wanna be rich and powerful ASAP + LEGALLY'??? Are they afraid of the truth? Coz as far as I know, at least 90% will say that if the panelists were willing to accept the truth.

Dude, if you're gonna get 1 crore per annum, you WILL have power, and you will have reputation.

Money brings reputation and power. Simple fact of life

PS : Can you please PM me the post you're talking about ? Just taking photocopies (Xerox is the name of a company FYI ) for the whole day and raking in 7 lakhs per month(after all the tax cuts) is just my kind of job !!
