Hi,
I got BLACKI calls this year and have 3 years work-ex (June 2006).

I have an Elec Engg background. For the benfit of myself and other call-getters with same profile, can the PGs post their experiences abt just acads related Qs. Like what is an Elec Engg generally asked? What is an Mech Engg generally asked? After 3 years work-ex, it will be difficult to touch upon everything. Please post the general areas from where you were asked Qs.

first of all congrats on cracking the first stage.
2 qs 4 u - is elec electrical engg or electronics (as in electronics n comm)
which area has been ur workex in - core elec or some unrelated fied like IT
reg ur qs., with 3 yrs of workex it is highly unlikely the interview panel will grill you in your acads. they will be more interested in your work ex. here it also depends on in which field your work ex has been... is it in some core electrica engg company(highly unlikely) or some other filed like IT.
in either case it makes more sense to focus on ur workexpart- achievments, projects handled, learnings etc. they dont really expect you to remember some tech stuff u learnt 3 yrs ago but havnt applied since. basics of elec engg., i feel, will more than suffice.

I hav 3 months Work Ex in IT industry......but thng is tht i hav done my BE in Instrumentation and control(ICE) frm NSIT.I hav not much grasp in my Engg subjects.
My query to PGites in IIMs is

(1) wht possible ques cud i be asked pertaining to my degree??( some specific ques wud help).
Cud i be askd as to why i am switching fields frm ICE......to.......IT........to..... MBA??

(2) I am putting up in Delhi/Grg. Which coachin insti shud i join?? I heard abt someone called Prof Malay who provides economics oriented coachin in IIT D.Any ideas abt him??

Im from an Chemical Engg background and I am currently into IT. What sort of questions could they ask from me as not every one will have an idea abt Chemical Engg.I was not very good at Chemical engg though my grades look good.
Im a fresher and as has been told in many of the threads, being a fresher might invite questions from my acads.
How do I prepare for questions frm my acads? Can I be confident that being from an obscure engg background might shield me from tough questions in acads?

congrats man!! 6 calls. u cracked the first stage. am from NSIT as well.. COE , 2005 batch. atb with the second stage.
regs ur qs
1. u could defn be asked qs from ur acads since u dont have much work ex.
now these guys dont follow an fixed pattern and may ask almost anything. but make sur u know ur basics.
normally, they ask u ur favourite subs. and then quiz u only from those. very often the will ask u about ur final yr projects and other projects that u did.
it also depends on the knowledge of the interviewer. now we are not expecting any technical experts in the panel so a sound knowledge of ur basics, depth in one subject of interest and knowing abt ur projects is enough. stay confident but dont try to bluff in the interview.
2. u could be asked y u switched to IT and now y mba so be prepared with some sort of an answer
3. reg the coaching instis, i didnt go to malay sir but have heard highly of him. also CL has a decent pdp program. not much diff bw the instis i feel. also none of the instis will give u any of the answers (and they should not) and most of the effort will have to be your own.

will give u contacts of ppl who went to malay and ppl from ICE(for any specific qs.) who cracked it last yr

how come u r a fresher from chem engg and currently into IT. do u mean u r interested in IT??
and chem engg is no obscure engg backgrnd.. the ppl sitting there would most probably know more abt chem engg than comp engg. in their time chem engg was much more popular and computers unknown. so makes sense to prepare a bit.. as i said identify atleast 1 strong subject and know ur btp and other projects well.

I had done some extra credits in my engg in Comp.Science and I migrated to IT field after completion of my engg....
And thanks for the advice, I now realise that they really might be knowing a lot abt chemical Engg...

Q. Prove that the sum of the angles of a traingle is 180 degrees ??


how do you prove it except following:
For any polygon:
sum of all interior angles = 180*n - (sum of all exterior angles)
= 180*n - 360
= 540 - 360 = 180 (for triangle)

Is there any other way ??

Draw a line parallel to the base...

extend AB...and draw a line parll to bc...

two angles which will be formed will be equal to B and C resp as they will form corresponding and alternate angles...and angle in a straight line is 180 degrees

Myself a chemical engg final year student. If there is any chemengg around who faced the interviews please give an insight about the kind of questions they ask.Say for instance if i say my interest is in design then what kinda questions i can expect.
