International B-schools accepting CAT scores - 20-11-2005, 01:24 PM

I read in today's Times Of India (page 11, 20Nov 05) about CAT being accepted by foreign B-schools....here is the entire article from TOI :

Scoring Globally

Hemali Chhapia

CAT is giving GMAT a run for its money. For the first time, international business schools have shown interest in accepting CAT scores. Management schools, which swear by the Graduate Management Admission Test scores, will now recognise CAT.
The ESCP-EAP European School of Management, which admits over 3,100 post-graduate students each year, will accept CAT scores for the 2005-06 admissions for MBA at all its five campuses (London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin and Torino). This school ranks among the top management ‘Grandes Ecoles' in France and is the topmost business school in Germany.
Similarly, the DeGroot School of Business at McMaster University, Canada, has written to IIM-Kozhikode, which is conducting CAT 2005-06, to allow them to accept CAT scores for their management programme.
‘‘It’s the first time that international B-schools are recognising CAT scores for admission. It’s because of the high standard of the question paper and the skills tested,” says R P Suresh, IIMK chairperson (admissions).
IIM sources expect more foreign institutes to follow. Currently, 83 Indian B-schools have registered with CAT Group to admit students based on CAT scores. Each has to pay Rs 75,000 as registration fee. The IIMs also charge Rs 100 to release individual scorecards. ‘‘No distinction has been made for foreign institutes,” adds Suresh.

I just happened to log onto the DeGroote school of business website and found that it does mention of taking CAT scores... (not clear whether only CAT scores would do or they still need GMAT)... but it certainly is a giant leap for IIM's CAT

Here is the link.

Information for International Applicants

Only students who have a bachelor's or comparable degree may be considered for admission to the MBA Program. Due to variations in the educational systems throughout the world, a bachelor's degree from a foreign country does not automatically mean that the foreign student will be granted admission to the Program. Foreign students should normally expect to spend at least two complete academic years at McMaster in order to qualify for the MBA degree.

Applicants from India may wish to provide their CAT registration number and test date on the application form.

A further qualification for Visa students is that they must have a minimum of one year of technical, managerial or professional work experience.
