TP bhai, do give some gyaan about DS. I get only two types of scores in DS:
score = 0 OR score<0
As shrutz said, the stand alone LR questions are usually the easiest but I prefer to leave them for the end because they give minimum return per time spent. My favorite ones are the sitting/team combination kind of questions. They make me jump around in joy

LR is generally easy too, but the easy LR is usually a stand alone question!

hey tp..
i get around the cutoff marks in this section be it of c.l or ims but how should i go about maximising the marks.how much will my attempts increase once i memorise all the table percentages n stuff..my sual approach is simmilar to one suggested by my c.l facult i.e table then graphs then pie charts n lastly paragraphs kinda things.for lr he said tht that is genrally difficult so i dun go for it unless they are for 2 marks...how to improve it??
regards
sameer

Re: the di/lr guide ( general queries welcome) - 06-11-2005, 01:05 AM

im sorry folks for l8 replyin was busy in submission of files and now to top it all sesssionals r starting frm monday. anyways no excuses and here i go

this is how i do the di section now i dun want u to copy it but u can customize it for urselves to get max benefite but the underlyin principle shd be the same

generally di is always either the second or third section which i attempt coz i prefer to start witheither qa or va/rc. also i never give more than 35-40 min at 1 go to this section. again u may find a di section very easy and u may want to give urself more than 40 min so that u can crack it but even if the temptation is there, first attempt the other sections, clear their cutoff's and only then give more time here coz it may happen u gettin 35-40 in di and cant clear other section cutoff's. so at one go, dun give more than 40 min to di.if u wana give more, give at the end

now the second thg which ive always done is to have a predetermined goal inside my head as to the min marks which ive to get frm this section. i always peg that goal to be 10 coz even if the di section is tougher, u still require atleast 10 to cross 90's. so i peg it to be 10. for those very gud at di, u can peg that to be 15 and those not very gud can start with say 7-8

y im saying this is that most of the times , we lose bcoz of the pressure we create on ourselves. it is the pressure of 20's which makes us lose out in end. dun put uneccesary pressure on urselves. just say to urself that u need only 10 marks, rest r just bonus rest ques r just for choice u need only 10. this way the pressure will disappear and u will get more than ur goal. believe me it works always. just need to peg ur goal less.

after peggin it at 10, i start with di. the reason is that generally di is easier and nowadays the paper r bcumin lr intensive and lr is generally tuf so bttr start with di, now this is for a guy whos gud at di , those gud at lr can start frm there.

now wen i start with di the thgs which i keep in mind r very simple. wenever u start with a set remembr u just hav to get 10 marks that means 5 frm di section and that menas 2-3 frm each di set. now initially in di set, dun do ques which r easy but require a lot of calculatuions. only do ques which r easier and require less calculations. attempt calc intensive ques at the end wen u r warmed up coz if u attempt thm at start, u will waste time. now gradually move to all the di sets and do all the doable ques of each set. dun get stuck anywere. if u dun understand a caselet in 1 reading, dun re read again. move ahead. do ques which r doalble in 40 secs and mark those which r easire but require calculations. now this way even if 4 seta r there of di, u will cmplete this analysis in 10-15 min. if 4 sets have 15-20 ques , u cud have easily done 6-7 ques by now. believe me 6-7 is lowest i cud thk of and if u have 100%accuracy which u shd coz these r just 6-7 ques then uve already have 6-7 marks. now since u r warmed up , do the calc intensive ques which u left in the di section at first go. now leave the di part coz u have maximized this. believe me in the end the number of attempts doesnt metter but accuracy does. if u can do 10 ques but do them all correct, ur work is done atleast in di

now go to ds section, personally my ds isnt sumthg to be proud of and ive rarely got marks there. but as long as im gettin marks in di/ds/lr section as a whole, this shdnt matter. so if ur ds isnt gud , just chk if u can get 1-2 ques there, if no move on. dun get stuck.

now cum to lr now since uhave 20 odd minutes, it wud be advisable to do caselets where mnore than 1 ques r there. look at caselets and go for a tabular one like aimcat 616 had of cricket or caselets having 2-3 ques. see if u can crack them. generally it hapens that we r able to crack 1-2 outta 3 in one attempt. now dun go back dun re read. do other caselet. now if u cant do more than 2 caselets, them look at standalone ques and see if u can do 3-4.
now come out of this section if u cant do more here. believe me all ive written seems simple and u thk u know this still we never apply this

my speed has never been gud but accuracy has always been gud. so focus on accuracy and just dun get stuck anywere if u keep moving on and just keep in mind ur goal which is 8-10 u will achieve this. i started with 8-10 and believe me this way i cud get 15 then 20 and even 25
