REAL percentile @ AIMCATS - 25-08-2005, 04:32 PM

hi folks,

Here is a formula to calculate ur real percentile with the help of aimcat percemtile.

Assumptions:

1.total no. of cat aspirants this yr - 1.7 lakh.
2.total number of time selections this year from time - half the no. of seats @ iims. (last year was 531/ approx. 1100 )
3. From 2 we can assume that half the number of calls or half the number of serious aspirants or half the number of final selections ........ are taking up the mock aimcat.
4.total no. of aimcatters - 17 k.

Real percentile TM = 100 - ( (100 - aimcat percentile )*0.2 )

Corollary 1: cheer up as 90 perc in aimcat is 98 in real terms.
Corollary 2 : pray for even better results frm time this year.
Corollary 3 : : this formula proves the theory that helping out each other in threads such as those for aimcats actually increases our percentile . ( as the ratio of students getting selected frm TIME increases).

Disclaimer : the above thing actually is a no brainer but still i bet thr r thousands who think that securing 99.5+ in aimcat is essential for getting calls frm IIMS.

Corollary 4: Corollary 3 equally works well with prac cats , sims , i dont know wat cl guys call it.

Consistency is the key - 25-08-2005, 04:39 PM

That was a great piece of calculation in deed.

My gut feeling is that consistency is the key to success for that we need lots of patience to hold on till the D day.

I agree with your common sense analysis. Its sort of feelgood factor for ppl like me who always end up in AIMCATS in 90-95percentile range

We must overcome the notion that we must be regular... It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary and leads you to the mediocre.

The analyis is valid from the mathematics and does make some sense. However, the point remains, "perf on D-day". If one is consistent in Mocks, its fair enough to be confident in actual CAT. And ppl will agree to this, confidence before and DURING the test matters a lot on the final outcome.

BTW, just wondering, can this be validated by ex-TIMErs. Those who were consistently getting, say 95%... and provided they performed with same accuracy etc. on final day, did they end up with 99 + percentile?
