Bell the CAT - 23-08-2005, 01:40 PM

Hi!..Starting with myself….

I am Priyanka…completed my graduation…took CAT 2004.performance was pathetic…Started with my preparation from june for CAT 2005…just realized my strengths and weaknesses…and changed my way of practising sums for quant section…VA/RC is a big hurdle for me to cross…. Got bored after 2 months…starting now with 1st SimCAT, which is going to be held on 28th Aug..

I request ppl from surat to start sharing info abt various test series, experience --who took CAT 2004 and ur opinions…

One thing what I want to know is how many students are going for more than one mock cat series…and how did u find it..Helpful or not so..especially correspondence students..

Hope to see ppl here soon…

Priyanka…

CAT Mania and "Dreams" persuaded me to enrol for CAT Enhanced correspondance course from IMS , Surat Centre on August 08, 2005 but professional and personal obligations rarely allow me to stick on schedules and strategies. But then the " INSIDER" within me always reprimands and inspires me to hold on. CAT seems only panacea to all my pains.. Here is something which might help you .........

I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself." ~Ralph Ellison, "Battle Royal"

One more Xsurati here. - 23-08-2005, 03:22 PM

hello guys/ gals,

Nice to see new thread dedicated to Surtis for cAT prep. I took CAT2004 got a decent percentil of 98.01, but thanks to some horrendous decisions could not make it to a Bschool. This year I will bet aking CAT again and i am working on my nemesis QA.

I took PT classes which are quite decent mind u for BEGINNERS only after that u need the experienced hand of either IMS or CL.

Lets discuss and try and keep each other updated about what we are applying to and why coz frankly dont wanna mess it up this time too!

As far as test series go CL ' s series is closest to CAT that is what i found last year.
Adios for now will keep posted and hope others drop in with a word of advcie too.

Talking of experiences....... - 23-08-2005, 08:09 PM

Well I did have a call from MICA. It was blown big time thanks to a fish market GD where Yours Truly became the largest fish.

Interview although cool brought out my egoist self in a full frontal assault so no surprises didnt make it.

By the way for those who dont know MICA is the mecc fo people who want to pursue Communiction Mana. field . stuff like advertising brand management blah blah.

I have taken up IMS corespondence packet and will be taking SIMCATS starting this sunday . it would be great if eveyone could chip with their scores.

As far seriousness goes i resigned form my Job at ESSAR Oil after amonth simply to go full fledgeg for CAT.

so lets get togethder whatever and bell this cAT Surati Style.

Hello--surtis - 24-08-2005, 11:53 AM

Hi!!..

Good to see CAT aspirants from Surat…Thanks to QuickSilver for posting his experience…Many people including me require a word of advice from masters in CAT..i.e those who got 90+ percentile last time and taking CAT again to get into IIMs this time..

What abt other people??…Only 4 to 5 people access net in Surat or what??..

Hope to see this thread flooded with Surtis..

SimCATs are starting this Sunday…and also the C part..I guess there will be separate thread for SimCATs ..but would like to see atleast section test scores(of C Part) here..as it would help us to identify were we stand…

Surat janta drop in!!…

Priyanka..

As far as advice goes,.................. - 24-08-2005, 12:48 PM

well as far as advice goes u ask for 1 and u end up with tonness it upto you to skim through. Last year i was preparing for cAT along with my engineering degre from SVNIT Surat.

But I did try and attend as many clases of PT as possible enables u to stay in touch.
Reading certainly helps and so does doing logical stuff coz if u observe even the QA section does not ind giving some mind bogglers.

try and get QA straightened and u benefit in DI too as DS becomes cake walk once the concepts are clear.

And do attempt to apply too as many decent instiutues as possoble ad dont be an only IIM and nothing candidate coz its walking a tuhgt rope as i realized last year.

and what else keep writing and Fighting coz CAT is worth it.

Hello - 24-08-2005, 03:01 PM

I know!!..as far as advice is concern…..I would never ask for how to prepare for particular section or something like that…

See!!….there are some sums that people (atleast me) use to leave just reading it once without trying…why!!..bcoz we could not able to find better approach to that particular sum….for eg….I found one question in first CL test –if we write numbers from 1 to 200 side by side like—12345…199200…what is the remainder when we divide it by 64??…

I left the sum…Then saw explanatory ans sheet at home..

In explanatory ans sheet—its given that as 1000000 is exactly divisible by 64, we need to check for the last 6 digits only..

I could not understood this funda..how come if we divide last 6 digits…the remainder that we get, will be of entire series….

Anyways….what I want to tell u is….one who has taken CAT once…. have an idea of what kind of mistakes people make…and it might happen that same mistakes are made by others…would appreciate if people share that….I guess that will serve as an advice for others…

Priyanka…
