Hi Kunal,

I guess I was in the same boat..just a few months back I was an ISB first round admit and have calls from IIM A,B and K and some US schools. Amount of work experience is similar ie. 3 yrs. Now I would just share some facts why I chose to to wait for IIM A, B and drop ISB (yes I turned down the offer with a heavy heart coz my gf is going to ISB..). here are my reasons:

1. I wanted to continue in consulting but switch from Process / risk consulting to Management and in my opinion and for me, the summer was very important. Firstly, to guage my fit in to a MC and second to convert a PPO in to final offer. Both of which are not possible in ISB.

2. In my opinion in a B school each one has to have a trump card to excel in the placements. My trump card is a 3 years of work ex in consulting in big 4. I am a non - engineer from an eco background and would be pitted against zillion IITians (no offence to other Engg colleges) with significant work ex in ISB, that nullifies both my academic record and work ex. While in IIM though i would be against freshers from IIT, who would definitely be more academic ready to fight against me, my trump card will be extremely important during the summers and possible final placement.

3. Also the alumni network was wider for IIMs against ISB. But ofcourse that will be nullified soon with the strategy of ISB to generate alumni @ 425 - 550, and hence will spread at phenomenal rate.

4. I did not fit into the programme in ISB. Frankly, I want the academic rigour but then some people I know want to network and enjoy other aspects of a BSchool. Here ISB scores big time because of the age profile, the clubs maybe more suited to a 26 - 27 crowd.

Hence, these are some of the reasons why I chose an IIM over ISB. But it could be different for you definitely. In my opinion, only a C and in distant possibility L can be compared to ISB, in terms of quality of people, faculty and career oppurtunities. So assess your risk appetite and see if it is worth the INR 8 Lac more.

Cheers

Saptarshi

Thanx Saptarshi!
Your assesment would definitely help my decision making easier. I was also thinking on similar lines, but yes mine and your case have a few differences. e.g. i'm not very clear of my career goal unlike you. I have to experience a traditional corporate environment as my w/e is from a non- traditional field- merchant navy. And that possibly makes summer training more important. I am trying to overcome the glamour of isb infrastructure and saving a year and hope iim results are out soon.

@Pratik, Sorry for any inadvertant error. Good luck to you !!
before insinuations fly, lemme confess I am a biased party wat with paying nm fees tomo ...yes aakriti spot on...nm is a real good coll.me telling this based on wat many and many ppl say incl my uncle who did an exec mba working at mazagan docks at nm...many ppl. are out to trash the insti unfairly...if nothing else..240 students having avg of 7.5 is just awesome....and comparing it to nitie ,as aakriti said nitie is also really good but saying that nm is not in the same park as nitie is well..stretching things too much ...hail nm!!! ..having said all this, IF i get mdi or iimk will take them up...but that just reflects my perception on the realtive strengths of the institutes and whether me or any other takes up or leaves nm doesnt matter..nm will remain a really good bschool...

See choosing a B.school and Dating are very similar things....
Once you've got a call from a place which you thought/or had thought to be above your league then that/he/she(even he~she) suddenly loses its charm...value to you....Henceworth please be rational in all your choices and throw the Ratings things to the Wind and do a SWOT thingy with the Institute and Then with yourself and then analyse...else you'd end up like Vivek Oberoi...once out with Aishwarya Rai now...his lovelife is down in the Drain..Hope this wasn't too boorish and might help people...
