these iim ppl are very strict. my friend's uncle who was the incharge of CAT registration there could do nuthin to help me . but by gods

so all those who made the same mistake write to the iim authorities and ask them what to do now. i would suggest that u write the same address as on the pay slip ie of ur friends address...No idea abt whether the name should be of applicant.
my best wishes ...but take my advice and plz do sthng b4 its too late.

Hey somebody else bought my form and although the name and address on the pay-in slip are mine the sign isn't. Will it still make a difference?
Thanks.

As for ur diploma, there is a separate column on the CAT form where u can fill in the diploma marks. In doing this, U are to leave the 12th or HSC section blank.

Hey Srikrishnan,
Thanks again.Got the JNTU thing. But for the Diploma,I was'nt asking for the marks column.I was asking for the board column. As such I don't belong to my state HSC board or to any university. So what option do I fill in?

Cat Application Form: Please Clarify The Following -
06-08-2005, 06:15 PM
I would be thankful to anyone who can answer the following queries regarding the CAT application form.
1. Since I have no work experience, should I enter 000 in the work experience field or left it blank?
2. While entering the marks for SSC & HSC, the CAT Bulletin asks to take into account marks of all the subjects. My board (West Bengal) has one elective subject. While calculating the final marks only the marks obtained in the elective in excess of the pass mark is added while the maximum marks is the maximum marks of all the subjects except the elective. For eg, if there are 6 subjects including the elective with maximum marks of 200 each then the maximum marks is 1000. So if I get 800 in 5 subjects and 160 in the elective (Pass mark 60) then my total marks is (800+160-60) i.e. 900 and my percentage is (900/1000)*100 or 90%. Now considering the CAT bulletin my percentage would have been (960/1200)*100 or 80%. Please confirm which one is right as I think this system is also followed in other boards in India as well.
3. In my college we are awarded SGPA with a scale of 10. So if my average SGPA is 9.0 how should I convert it to percentage marks? Is it same as 90%?

1. leave the work ex part blank.
2.add up all the marks including the elective subj and divide it by the no. of subj and give the average of all the subjects. (Refer CAT bulletin carefully. its given there)
3. No u dont have to convert it. U can give it as 9.0 itself (refer CAT bulletin. its given clearly)

if ur talking about selecting the type of inst (IITs or NIT or sth like that), then i guess u'll have to select option 1. If I have not mistaken, then i guess West Bengal university is recogzised and consti by the state legislature. So its option 1. If u are still uncertain, try clling up IIM Calcutta. i think they will solve ur problem.
As far as the guy who asked about Osmania University, if I am correct, its a private university. SO it will represent the "Others" option. I think it is option 5(check out Cat Bulletin for the correct option no.).

and as a proof u can attach - ur college leaving or provisional certificate's xerox ( if u hv completed ur grad evn this year, ur collg wud provide it.. its better thn attaching mark-sheet).
- if u hv entered final yr, thn u can attach ur previous year's mark-sheet xerox..
well all this is my perception.. everybody else' view is anyways necessary..

Hi,
I've gone through the views of all the members for this query, and have come to the conclusion that attaching the final sem. marksheet will be (hopefully) good enough for the powers-that-be to accept my application! But still, I'll feel comfortable only after someone from A'bad, B'lore could check out whether it would be accepted, or someone from the coaching insti. could find out from any official source.
So please anyone in the same situation as me, please do the needful for the whole PG community. We'll be grateful.
Thanks,
Kaa

dropped subject -
08-08-2005, 09:05 AM
the bulletin says that we have to enter marks from all papers written. How does this work for dropped subjects? I dropped (ATKT etc) a subject in my 3rd sem (engg) and cleared it the next sem. when calculating the percentage, do i include my original (failed) marks or the one i got when i cleared the subject?
