The descriptive paper in P.O exam is allotted 45mins. Or max. 60mins. You may be given 4-5 topics without any choice and cover these in the allotted time. You are required to write on every topic and it may range from current affairs to even abstract topics. There are some essays where you need to express your views for and against the topic. For ex: 1) Present Day ills of Society can be attributed to the democratic system of government in India.” 2) Adult Franchise – Age alone as criteria for the right to vote is not correct. Education also should be a criterion. 3) Degrees should be delinked from jobs. 4) Is India’s decision to go nuclear correct?
Not only are you expected to mention ‘Whats’ but also ‘Why’s and How’s. Here are some examples: 1) Reservations – “Caste alone should not be the criteria” – What is your opinion on the subject? Give reasons in support of your opinion. 2) “Menace of Black Money is a bane of our economy”- Suggest remedial measures to curb Money. 3) Suggest effective measures to rejuvenate Panchayat Raj institutions in the country.
You are expected to put forth your views in not more than 4-5 points on every topic. This explains how concisely and clearly the topic is to be presented. After the objective paper is done you are handed the descriptive paper. It’s not inclusive of those 2hrs 15mins. time frame.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
