Neha, cracking CAT is totally dependent on one's ability.
i know ppl who have cracked CAT just by 1 month's preparation. There are ppl who have been trying since 3 years and still not cracked it, atleast so to speak.
if you are good with basics and feel that you just need to get your approach right, then analyzing mocks should be more than sufficient to improve your performance. else, you might need to squeeze some time out of your schedule.
if you are looking for a definite answer, then YES, 4 months preparation is more than sufficient

what exatly are those jobs. does it help score brownie points in your C.V instead of regular corporate jobs.

Check the below link to know what NGO is
Non-governmental organization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
well, most MBA colleges look for the profile the candidate has. the Profile includes the extra curricular activities, stream of education (Engg, Medicine, Commerce), current work-ex, responsibilities at work so on. based on all these Info, colleges try to get the best mix of students, so that the class will have an optimal diversity.
based on the profile of applicants, colleges might segregate them into smaller sub-groups like all applicants who are IT professionals, or all applicants who are freshers. now, IT, Manufacturing etc are streams that most guys/gals will be working in and thus the pool you will be segregated will be very large and thus very competitive. someone working in an NGO on the other hand will have a profile that is very unique. If He/She has opted for NGO because it was his/her zone of interest then it will add to the profile, because NGO's dont pay well(might sound little funny, ppl join NGO not to get paid, but as a service to the community)
so if you can justify your purpose and can bridge it with your aim and interest in life, then an NGO work-ex can truly be of great use, cause it shows some charector. if you join NGO just to get your profile more interesting, then it can back-fire. the panelists are quite smart

Advice on job change and mba -
18-07-2008, 04:18 PM
Dear Friends,
I am working in a major IT service company since 4 years (my first job) and I am planning to apply for MBA in top univerisities abroad by end of this year for a session starting summer 2009. In the mean time now I have got a lucrative offer from another company which I am willing to join. However, I still have same plans for MBA.
Could you please advice me if changing job just before an MBA would have negative impact on my MBA application?
Thanks a lot for a feedback.

Hey Dude,
Welcome to PG. I do not find any negative repercurssions of switching jobs on MBA admission process. If you are being offered a better profile please do go after it as it makes your CV heavier.
All the Best.

I am not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I would definitely appreciate an answer.
I just wanted to confirm something. I am working for a BPO.
The CAT 2008 bullitien asks for the sector of our work.
Can a BPO be passed off as an ITES (IT Enabled Service)? Or would it be more proper to categories it under others?:argue:
Actually I would prefer not to mark IT/ITES for two reasons.
1. I have 10 months experience in BPO, but also 14 months in sales as a team leader. Sales experience would definitely be more relevant for MBA. (categoriesed under others)
2. There might be a lot of candidates with IT/ITES experience, and almost everyone in IT industry would have a good academic track record. And I don't have a good academic track record. Therefore it would be easier for me to get through with others than to compete with IT guys. :2gunfire:
What would you puys suggest?:bigear:
And a ton thanks ya

Help ME Please...
Puys, I m in a big dilemma and really really need your help.
The thing is, I m an Electrical Engg, was placed in "Accenture" and will be getting the joining in a a month or more... Now since it was clear that the joining may come in Oct-Nov, i joined a recruitment agency this week as "HR-recruiter". now, "I want to do MBA in 09(most probably in HR), point is Should I stick with this recruiting firm or go for Accenture" ???
Because I know if i stay in this firm, i'll get all the basics of HR definitely, and as I m sure I hv to do an MBA, what benefit do I get by joining an IT firm only to change to Management field 2 yrs later. instead if I stay in this firm, I get to know more abt sumthng that i m gonna do in future...
BUT...
Also, everyone knows, Accenture is a really big ?(infact very big) name... and this cmpny dat i m with has just started(1.5 yrs old) but also As its growing, I feel my chances of growing are more with it.

This is not a problem ppl here can sort out buddy, you need to sort it out yourself.
if you are so determined to do MBA then as u pointed out working in Accenture is a waste of time, on the other hand, Accenture can provide you job guarantee. in case you don't make it big in CAT/XAT this year, then Accenture will give you something to rely on.
on the other hand, if you love doing what you do at your current role, then salary should not come in the way now. your just 20, you have your whole life in front of you to earn
