If u get a good %ile in CAT u definitely have good chances to get into top b-schools....ur acads are not that bad as u r thinking..just give ur best shot at CAT...
Ragarding work ex...yes it definitely helps u have work ex...but it doesn't mean not having work ex is -ve for u....so if ur joining date is before CAT join and simultaneously prepare...and if it is after CAT u know it well

the only score that will matter is your cat score besides the scores in your 10th and 12th or equivalent which shud be i guess 50% n above to be eligible, rest you can highlight your strong points and be well prepared with commonly asked questions in the second round (PI) ... so dnt let yourself down becus of your scores in your master...all they will test is wether you have the "management" material in you or not....this is my opinion

hi everyone....
>>>> I AM SORRY for the long-long essay i am goin to write,,, But PLZ HELP!!!!<<< <
here`s my story...
I am a guy whoz currently goin to start with the third year of his B.TECH degree. Actually, i DIDN`T score good marks in the past two years and the upcomin years are gonna be no different, i presume.... Becuase engineerin is just nt my line. now. i hv two years with me . and i want to go in for a dedicated study so that i can become successful... i hv a few questions for all of you...
1. i hv heard that EVEN if you crack the CAT,,, the guys at the IIM`s or other good institutions(For MBA of course) ... really take into account ,the marks that you have scored in your bachelor`s degree and that many people who hv scored REALLY WELL (say, above 98 percentile) never got any calls from the IIM`s just cz they had a poor score in their bachelors..
2. AND then i hv heard tht the marks that we hv already scored in graduation really dont matter if we score good marks in the IAS exam,, and all tht matters is the IAS ranking.
SO .. i feel tht IAS is a safe bet for me,..
3. Is this the right time to start preparin for cat or IAS,,,
4. How much time will it take for me to crack Both of em...
5. How important is WORK-Experience ?? are they given any preference during the selections???
I will give all it takes for the preparations.. I Just want to choose ONE OF THEM- IAS OR IIM...
so.. please tell me your views... DO i REALLY HV A RISK in MBA if i hv poor marks in B.TECH.. if it is so,,, then i think i`ll go for IAS ....
THANK YOU (If u really read such a long story)..
PLZ TELL ME YOUR VIEWS....

1) That is not entirely true. IIM's give a lot of weightage to CAT. so if your performance is good in CAT, you will in most certainty get a call. getting the final admission is dependent on a lot of things including your academics.
2) i dont have much clue
3) yes this is a great time to start preparing for CAT. aspirants generally start preparing from July or August. offcourse, the time frame depends on your comfort level. there have been people who study for just a couple of months and get high percentiles, while others have been studying for many years and still dont manage a decent percentile.
4)
5) yes certainly. work ex is important. having said that, i dont mean that people without work-ex will not be selected.

hey purple_green31...
dont get dejected becus of your low scores in your acads...even though its equally important to be practical and assess yourself before giving cat that wether you can crack it or not...for that you need to prepare FOR the CAT wrttn phase and then your second round....now let me ans your questions part by part.Firstly to get into an IIM you need to have very high score which shud make up for your poor profile....the top 100 odd scorers are called blindly without their profiles been checked...secondly if you get thru the first phase then you acads do hold some points but there are other more imp. areas like GD, PI, your exp which are also taken into account and you need to focus on them which are in your hands, its not alwayz true that an IIT guy only cracks IIM there are many more people who dnt have a gud profile yet manage to bag a seat in the IIMS, it sure is tough but all you need to be is YOU to be there....

Chinese is an option to consider. Even German and French are sought after foreign languages. Japanese is also there. With your finance background you could work as an interpreter for foreign delegates in their business meetings and conferences. Japanese takes arnd four years to master, French and German around three years.

Hello.
Well let me first brief my condition. I am a commerce graduate and i graduated in year 2005. Due to some family issues I was unable to proceed further for my higher studies and even was unable to do a job. Now when the conditions are favourable, just this april i got a job of business development manager in an M.N.C. I was planning to write cat of this year and was very confident. But i came across to some people and they told me that i even do not stand a chance to get into IIMS, no matter how much do i score in CAT, just because i do not have a nice 4 or 5 years experience and the top of that i was just an average scorer in my schools and graduation. So i am just getting hopeless and am losing my confidence. Are they true. Please help me.

First of all congrats on the job... you should be feeling confident that you have managed to bag up a job in difficult times.
Regarding your concerns -
IIMs, do consider acads during their selection processes...but as long as its not an eligibility criteria, you can always give it a try. Its nowhere mentioned that one needs to score some min marks to apply and appear for the test.
On the same note, its true that work exp matters, but they are more keen on having a balanced batch in terms of background and experience. So, its not that they are only looking for people with 4-5 years of experience.
Your profile is pretty decent. And now that you have got a job as a manager, by the time you ll get calls for 2010 admits, it will be an even more relevant one..
Apart from that, imo, if you want to write CAT, you should do it!
Dont cancel your plans just because people tell you something that they themselves donot know.
