how do u get a 99.99999999 percentile?
or just get up one day with no preparation and get 99.xxxx percentile in an exam (as i have read in many threads/posts)...are these people born smart...do i even have a chance against these people (or u)? |
Mr Crusader,
CAT is an aptitude test, and IMHO, aptitude has a lot to do with a persons individual character.
Getting a 99.9999999% is not just about studying hard, or knowing the basics.
I have a friend, who is brilliant in quant, but he just manages to clear the cut off every time, rather than consolidating in that section. why? its because he doesn't handle himself well inside the exam hall.
I also have another friend, who hardly knows 10 formula's in quant, but he scores very well in that section, because he solves every problem using logic. he always tells me "Bharath, dont learn formula's. CAT never asks questions where your ability to remember formula's is tested" well i dont know how right he is, but he just graduated out of IIMB this past March.
now from the example, what i am trying to convey, is the fact that everybody have their own way of getting a 99.999 percentile. some work hard, some work smart, others are born brilliant and have it very easy, but remember clearly that what works for one will not/might not work for you.
sometimes i feel, the biggest hindrance in getting a 99 percentile is yourself. you put urself under so much pressure, that you loose it mid way through. in this AIMCAT season itself, i have observed that in any AIMCAT, where i have been least bothered about the paper, i end up getting around 95-98% but if i give the paper too much of importance, i totally mess it up.
i dont know if this helped you. but im just trying to convey that a good score in CAT does not come from being great, its about doing great in that 2.5 hours
