hey ,

I am a 2004 pass-out .... Currently in CTS ... Will be in XLRI after another month !!

Regarding training ......

1. CTS is bad ... Beleive me ! u generally get trained in some tech and get to work in another ... U spend 25 % of ur life in coding and spend the Remaining 75 % on Documentation .... Here Quality is not for projects ... But its the other way round.

2. Infy training for non-techies is cool ! u really get a nice training .. But in general, the training is really adhoc .... My friend who was inducted into Infy without a training has gone to the training after staying in the company for 10 months (ridiculous)

3. WIPRO is Ridiculous in all aspects

4. TCS ... Havent heard them giving some worthy training !

All these companies have some stupid training policies that hardly makes sense ... If you wanna become a techies all the four of the above companies are not the one for you ! u can try ones like Sun Microsystems, IBM, MS, Honeywell, SAP, Oracle !

If MBA is what u are looking for ! get into any of these companies and rock the CAT/XAT next year ...

Cheers

Jayaram

Am surprised to see that Patni is missing from the list.No comments about the company but training is really good.Nice faculty and training is tough, you have to slog.Tests for each module. course material, lab sessions are too good.

hey ,

Guess u are from Patni .... I have not heard about training in Patni ! But Patni as a Compnay is not a great one to work with .. I have heard this in most of the case .... Companies like Polaris, Patni are all OK if you will just stay there for some months to get into some B'skool ! It will add no value to your profile ...

Please dont take this personally ! just a modest opinion ! I welcolm stats disprooving my statements ....

Cheers

Hi JK,
if you read my post carefully,i said "no comments about the company".guess it was self explanatory.
And there is compulsory training for freshers in Patni.Am surprised you have not heard of it.As for adding no value to the profile, brand names like infy, patni, tcs do matter. No surprise that many of the b-school converts are from Patni this year again.
One good thing about Patni is strict following of quality processes and methodologies.Seems frustrating sometimes but the knowledge of "processes" come handy in GD/PI and most when you are working as a manager(which one hopes to become one after graduating from a B-School).
my 4 aanaas...

Infy experience - 02-05-2005, 01:55 PM

hi ..
me from infy .....
And let me tell u about training in infy .....

I was from a non computer science back ground ....
was initially apprehensive of the nearly 4 month training program of infy .....
but to my suprise i was easily able to grasp all the basic fundas be it programing logic or rdbms with relative ease .....

It was bascially divide into two modules each of around 2 months ...
First modules helps u to understand the basics of rdbms and programing logic....

And the second module is stream specific which helps one to specialise in one field be it mainframes , web technologies or microsoft technologies.....

So in all it was quite exhaustive for a totally non comp science back ground guy like me..
It also helped me prepare a gud basefor future...

Gud Points ...
1) Each language taught was accompanied by a mock project which was like putting into real use wht u have learnt
2)Faculty was gud and ever ready to solve ones doubts....
3)Infrastructure facilities was top of the class..

Negative Points:
!) The course in the end dragged for too long ... 4 month of studying was too much ...
2)Course material was sometimes vague and not explanatory ..
3) test evaluation was too musch dependent on wht was written in study material ( In infy it is called chapak cause of its colorful cover pages ...)

In all a gud learning experience in infy .....

I really did not get what exactly u meant by non-techies ...... but i agree with u on the fact that the training is adhoc, especially in non-ERP streams.
I can comment about the training in INFY coz i'm working there in ES-SAP .

The training given in ERP technologies (called ES-Enterprise Solutions) is really good in Infy.
Infact, therez an ES University in INFY Hyderabad dedicated to train freshers in Enterprise Resource Planning.
The freshers put into ES are trained in almost all the aspects of business like Finance, accounting, Supply Chain management, logistics, CRM, Sales and Distribution etc etc........ which a fresher generally doesnot have to chance to learn as they are supposed to work on core technologies like JAVA, J2EE etc.
After this training, the batch will be divided into different practices like SAP, Oracle Apps, Peoplesoft, CRM, EAI etc and a thorough training is given in the respective practices.

I heard that CAPGEMINI has a very good training program for the freshers and i heard that some folks are also sent to CAPGEMINI University in France for some additional Competency Building exercises :whatthat: .
